My Plans For Sophomore Year!

A year to better myself and my future!

My Plans For Sophomore Year!

I know that freshman year just ended, and I know that summer vacation just started, but I also know that sophomore year will be here before I know it. I know that I will need to put forth my best effort next year as it will be a crucial sign in what my future includes. I know that my sophomore year is going to be very important, so I've put a lot of thought into the things I want to accomplish during it.

I'm going to be an RA (resident advisor) next year! When I found out that I got the job, I was beyond elated; I am super excited to get to be able to help a whole hall of residents! My first plan, as this will be why I go back to school earlier, is to be the best RA that I can be! Not only is this going to be a learning experience for me, but also a great chance to gain some leadership experience that will help out in the long-run when I begin to apply to medical school!

I plan to 'stay in the books'! I plan to put forth my best effort in my classes next semester, as they will be quite difficult! But, I will not be discouraged, I will not let what others have to say get me down in the dumps! I know what I am capable of, and I know that, if I do what is required of me, there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to pass with flying colors!

I also plan on volunteering a lot more in terms of health care! I plan on, once again, volunteering my time at a Remote Area Medical event! I had so much fun and it was probably the biggest learning experience of the year in terms of what I am looking forward to in my future career! I also plan on volunteering at physician's offices around my area when I am back at school! I plan on logging exposure hours at least one day a week. Another great opportunity would be for me to volunteer some of my time at the Health-Wagon! There are so many valuable resources in my area, in terms of health care!

I plan on staying involved on campus while doing all of this! I plan on remaining a member of the Pre-Professionals club and the other clubs that I am a member of in addition to being an SGA senator, the NCC-IT of RHA, and continue writing for The Odyssey!

As long as I can stay on this path that I have planned out for myself, and not stray to far from it, I should have a really successful sophomore year! I plan on juggling all of these things without dropping anything! Though, if something does get dropped, I will retrieve it! I am not one to quit when the going gets tough and I do not plan on doing so next semester!

See you soon, sophomore year!
I hope you offer up as many amazing opportunities as my freshman year did!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
