My Philosophy On Life

We can't judge people based on how they look, but based how they treat us as well as others.

I believe that we are the people that we are based on the outside forces influence them. I have always been the type of person to see people from different points of view. Normally people see others as another stranger, but I see people as another person who has many different thoughts and opinions, as well as a job to get done.

Everything is not what it seems also refers to people. A happy person on the outside is not always so happy on the inside. Just as a person who looks upset, does not mean that they are in a bad mood. I see people based on getting to know them, although I have a predisposition as to who they are, I do not let that get in the way of determining whether or not they are a good/bad person.

I have always believed that people are more than what they seem. I view people based on how they were raised, their morals/beliefs/values, religion, society’s influence, as well as how the person associates with people. The most important thing for me is a person’s respect. If a person does not have self-respect as well as respect for others, it will be hard for me to get to know them.

When people are born, their first influences of the world are given to them by their parents and family’s culture. The influence of the parents is then passed down to their children and then to future generations to come. When we are born, our parents have set notions as to who they want us to become; although it may not be a personal choice of our own. As our parents believe that they know what is best for us. However, when those children grow up they can choose whether or not to follow their parent’s belief or branch off and make their own experiences for themselves.

Additionally, their views on the world is also shaped by society, media, and the education system. We as humans are subject to outside influences, therefore the product of our own “selves,” is not only man-made, but culture based. We can not only base our views on what other’s tell us, but we must be able to learn and experience things for ourselves.

Culture shapes who we are from the point of view of our religions and ethnicity. Religion is the system by which we are able to believe and worship in a power of supreme importance. One person cannot judge people solely based on religion because it does not make up a person’s self-worth. Self-worth is based on more than just one single concept.

I believe that it is more important to go through our own experiences of events, or emotions in order to really walk in the shoes of other people. How can we judge others before we know what their life is about?

As we are all different people, we all have different beliefs, morals, and values. Beliefs, morals, and values help to shape our opinion and give us acceptance of what we believe to be true. These lessons teach us much about what we want to understand about the things which we cannot physically control.

They also allow us to understand where others are coming from as well as why they think differently from us. When I get to know people I want to know their beliefs, interests, as well as their family life because those are the best ways to learn about who people are and why they think the way that they do.

My goal in life is to become a psychologist because I am very interested in learning about the human mind as well as the functions of behavior. I believe that mental health is just as, if not more important than physical health because people don’t like to talk about it. A perfectly (physically) healthy person can be walking around, but internally they are about to fall apart. If we don’t have strong mental health, it is also hard for us to have strong physical health. This is why I believe that we are not able to judge a person’s physical well-being with their mental well-being and why we cannot judge books by their cover.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
