Our Opinions Matter Just As Much As The Next Person's

Recently, I've noticed how little people care about others and their opinions. As I scroll through Facebook and other social media sites, I see nothing but negativity and disagreement. I'm not referring to the recent election, that's not what this article is about. I'm just talking about conversations in general.

I was always told to treat people how I wanted to be treated and to not say anything that I wouldn't want said to me. It shocks me how mean we can be to one another and how little we respect each other. I have my own opinions and thoughts which often don't match with my friends or acquaintances, but not once have I not listened to their opinion. We all have our own opinions and thoughts -- that's okay! Not everyone is the same, but the fact that there are people telling others that they are wrong because of their thoughts and opinions kind of breaks my heart.

We live in a world that allows us to all have our own voice and opinion, how amazing is that?

We live in a world where we can set goals and work towards them. If you put your mind to something, there's a chance you can reach any goal you set. We have so many options as to how we should use our voice and yet we choose to use it in a negative way against each other. I constantly witness people voicing their opinions, in both positive and negative ways. It may be through Facebook where they share a cute video and make a comment about how happy it made them and how they think everyone should watch it. Often times I see people with negative comments, such as them disagreeing with someone's point of view; so let's just get something clear. Your opinion is no greater than the next person's. Like my daddy has always said -- opinions are like assholes, we all have one.

So when you come across something that you don't necessarily agree with, please don't take it upon yourself to put others down. Take into consideration how different we all are, how different our lives are and the way we view the world. My view of the world isn't rainbows and unicorns but I view the world as an amazing place that allows me to further my education and work towards my dreams of becoming a teacher. I dream of meeting a wonderful man that believes in all my goals and aspirations in life. Maybe you want something similar or maybe something completely different than mine, maybe you want to be a doctor or a vet -- maybe you don't know what you want to do. THAT IS FINE!

Regardless of your life goals, views, choices, opinions and so much more -- there's always going to be someone who doesn't agree with you or someone you don't agree with, but that's what makes us all unique. Just remember -- It's your life, your opinion & you should do you, boo!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
