My New York Experience

Not Exactly What I Expected

My New York Experience

I was able to fulfill one of my long time dreams: to visit New York.

Being from Georgia made me think I would never visit New York because it is so far away and I was terrified of airplanes so I knew it was so far fetched for that idea to even be fulfilled.

The day my parents told me I we were coming to the US, I pictured myself looking up at skyscrapers. Just as New York looked like in pictures, that was the US for me. Little did I know not all of the states have skyscrapers, and Georgia was one of those states that didn't have skyscrapers everywhere.

Well the day finally came when I by some luck of this life had the opportunity to travel to New York for the first time. Yes it was a very random trip but I couldn't say no to one of my dreams.

So my friends and I get to New York at around 7 am on a Saturday. We weren't exactly sure of what we wanted to do so we just walked into a McDonald's and sat there watching every person that came in. One of those people was a man that was standing by the corner when we crossed. He came up to me and my friends and asked if we wanted anything to which we obviously responded, "no, thank you". The man kept insisting so I sent I text to our group chat that we should leave that restaurant because that man definitely did not look in his five sense, so we left there and went into a Chic-fil-A that was a just down the street. That is where we had breakfast.

Thankfully we didn't have anymore interactions with inebriated people.

The first place we went to was Koreatown. From there we went to Times square. Times Square was loud with lots of people everywhere and a lot of screens with colorful, bright, constantly changing ads here and there.

After that we went to Central Park, where observed some more people. On our way there we had to take the subway. The subway was a very interesting system. I had always been curious as to how it worked, it looked very complicated, but it really isn't.

To summarize this whole experience, I will have to give New York a second chance. Even Though we went to some touristy places New York was most definitely not for me. People in the subway were rushing to make it into that one already packed train. Every single person in New York streets seems to be busy. I felt like stopping them and telling them to breath, that there was a life outside of work.

Nevertheless, I had fun on this dream come true adventrue of mine. I guess the fast paced life is just not my thing but coming back people from around Delaware that have been to New York told me that I had to give NY a second chance. Hearing this from one than one person made me rethink my perspective because I had decided that I would never be back. So now I am looking forward for the next opportunity to visit this fast forward moving city with the pretty buildings that apparently has a lot more to offer than its laborious people.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
