I already knew I was going to get a cat when I got back to Charleston. This was something I'd decided for certain around when we picked out this pet-allowing apartment. I've lived my whole life with cats so I've definitely had my fair share of experience with them, but having your own cat is a completely different thing.
I think the easiest way for me to get that across is with my first few days with her(by the way her name is Rue). I was a little worried about taking care of a living creature, and I think reasonably so. There should be a little bit of fear when you decide to take a living creature's life completely into your hands.
So the first few days when I saw that the food bowl still had food in it after I'd put the recommended amount in I'd keep trying to put her next to it so she would eat more. My roommate made fun of me by comparing me to a grandma always telling her grandchildren to eat more, but honestly that was incredibly accurate.
I still have a bit of that fear in me, that I'll forget to feed her or something and one day I'll find her under my bed... I really don't want to think anymore about that. But I'm slowly adapting and getting used to it and I'm beginning to understand a little more why people can get so attached to their pets. It's one thing to live alongside a pet for a while, but it is an entirely different thing to have complete control over that pet's life.
I think what I'd like to say is that I have a lot more appreciation for everyone who has decided to take on that task and done a good job with it.
But nobody came here for me to talk about my anxieties about having a cat, people want pictures and they want to know how social and adorable she is. Which to that I say she is absurdly adorable and that she is as sociable as you can ask a cat to be.
I was trying really hard to get a good picture of her and I accidentally got a picture of her meowing
I've already had two people say that this is the first cat that they've really enjoyed because she is just super social and will jump onto the couch and settle down next to you without any coercion. She is seriously awesome.
Cut lap cuddling!
I'm so very happy I adopted this adorable kitty and I can't wait for everyone to meet her! Thank you all so much for reading and I hope you like her at least half as much as I do!
