The Most Phenomenal Woman!

A Letter To My Mother

Phenomenal Mom,

There is no way I can tell you how much I appreciate your love and warmth with words. I pay homage to you this Mother's Day by expressing my LOVE to you through words, words too simple to emphasize their meanings. You have never given up on me, you have never left me, everything you have done is to benefit our family. So many times you have had to do things on your own, but you always seem to make a way, when I saw no solution. I learn from you daily how to accomplish growth and independence in my life. You are strength, you are love, you are peace, you are understanding. When I reach a breaking point, you have assured me with your open heart and wisdom abundantly. I admire the woman you are, I aspire to carry myself as you do, and I appreciate the adventurous spirit I inherited from you. I have learned to be fearless, to live by my rules, to block negativity, and to conquer challenges before me. You are so PHENOMENAL. You introduced me to the world by encouraging me to explore every opportunity and to ask questions. You have taught me to not settle in life, by making sure I knew my worth, you made sure I knew how to encounter the world. The times I felt alone and afraid, your hugs wrapped around me tight, warm, and comforting. When I feel down or alone, I imagine you are there with open arms to make a way. This Mother's Day I want you to know there is no replacing you, Mom. I love you so much and thank you for being my mom. There is so much you deserve and so much more I wish I could do. I hope I make you proud as I use your example to become Phenomenal.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
