10 Reasons Our Moms Are Our Best Friends
Bustle

When you think of a teenage girl and her mother you most likely imagine screaming and the slamming of doors. There's a common belief that once you hit a certain age, you and your mom are constantly fighting and hiding things from her. For me, and many other girls, this is not the case at all. Here are ten reasons why I call my mom my best friend.

1. The advice is always on point.

Moms have had many years of life experience. Whether you like to admit it or not, all moms are much wiser than you and are almost always right. With that being said, they give the absolute best advice. They will never lie to you and will at all times have your best interests at heart. Love it or hate it, they know what they're talking about it, and it's best to listen to them.

2. She always knows how to comfort me.

With one look at me, she not only knows that something's wrong, but she also knows how to make it better. Whether it's with my favorite meal or bringing me a cup of coffee, my mom is always trying to make me feel better when I'm down. Best friends always look out for each other, which my mom does every day.

3. My mom is the best person to talk to.

When talking to other friends about things, you're never absolutely sure if it will actually stay between the two of you. With your mom however, that's never an issue. I can spill my guts about anything and know that it will never leave the room. She is the number one person I trust, and because of that she is also the number one person I go to to tell things.

4. We are constantly going on lunch and breakfast dates.

I always look forward to going to breakfast and lunch with my mom. We never argue about where to go because we both love the same places. We also always share our meals, so I get to eat a variety of delicious food. It's also a plus when the check comes and your mom gives your bank account a break.

5. The shopping is better with her.

When you try on clothes with friends, they can sometimes tell you it looks good on you when in reality, it is an absolute train wreck. These friends just want to spare your feelings. Your mom however? Well she isn't going to let you walk out of the house looking like a train wreck. This is why she is the best shopping companion and friend.

6. There's never any judgement and always acceptance.

It can be super intimidating at first to tell your mom everything and anything. When I first began to be 100% honest with her, I was super nervous of the consequences. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that she never judged what I told her. It made our relationship stronger, and we became closer not only as mother and daughter, but also as friends.

7. We are basically the same person.

She has passed on many of her traits and obsessions onto me. We both have an unhealthy obsession with coffee, spontaneous adventures, reading, the beach and old movies. All of these things we have in common, and many more, have made us exceptionally close. We never have a problem finding something to do because we never disagree. The best part is getting to constantly trade books that we loved reading.

8. Our arguments don't last long at all.

Like all mothers and daughters, there is some fighting. When I mess up or she does something wrong, we do bicker. But this fighting never lasts long. Fighting with other friends can be very different, and it can last for a good amount of time. With my mom, however, it never lasts long because we can't go two days without speaking to each other. We'll hug, make up and then go watch a good movie with even better food.

9. She knows how to make me laugh better than anybody.

After 18 years of knowing somebody, you better know how to make them laugh. My mom knows exactly how to make me smile or laugh at any point. This makes every day I spend with her extremely fun. She's just as adventurous and goofy as me, which makes the laughing come with ease.

10. My mother is the most inspirational person I know

They always say to make sure your friends resemble the type of person you would like to be. This is the main reason why my mom is my best friend. She is the strongest and most amazing person I know. I strive to be exactly like her in every way. It is because of this that I hold her so close to my heart not only as a mother but as a best friend.

My mom being my best friend has not only made my life so much easier, but also so much more enjoyable. I am blessed to have such a close relationship with my mother, and I advise every girl to try to have this type of relationship with their mom. I am thankful to call her my mom, but even more thankful to call her my best friend.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
