I am not sure how many people have watched the T.V. series, Gilmore Girls, but my mom and I are obsessed with that show. We own all seven seasons of the show and are absolutely ecstatic to see the four new episodes on November 25th! The mother-daughter duo that the show is based around are best friends and that is exactly how my mom and I are. A bunch of girls in high school were always complaining about their mothers, but my mom is my very best friend. Here are three reasons why my mom is my best friend:
1. She understands.
My mom understands. If I do something completely dumb and unlike myself, I begin to freak out and I'm terrified of telling my mom. However, when I finally do tell her, she understands. She has been in the same shoes that I have been and she has made her own mistakes. She has never gotten mad at me for telling her something. Granted, she may get mad that I did not move my laundry over! Recently when running an errand for her, I forgot to give her credit card back and noticed the next day. As I was starting to panic, I texted her letting her know what had happened, and she did not have a single mad word to say to me.
2. She gives me advice.
A bunch of parents have the parenting style of letting their children find out wrongs and rights for their own because that's how they were raised. My mom doesn't give me all of the answers, but when I am in a bind, she helps me out. My mom is the first person I go to whenever I need help. My mom gives me advice on what to wear to a job interview, how to tweak my resume, or even just if something doesn't fit me right- she will let me know.
3. She is more than my mom.
I can talk to my mom about more than just family things. I discuss everything from my relationship, school, things I see online, and anything that comes up. I remember telling my mom about my first kiss and scrunching my nose up while describing the horrible incident of bumping noses and saying I did not ever want to kiss again. Later down the road I would discuss the details about what I did not like about each boyfriend I had. I probably made swirls within my mom's head about all of the names of boys I liked or friends I had because I tell her everything. Beyond just telling her everything, my mom and I just get each other. It's like those lame movies where people finish each other's sentences or can communicate with just a look between each other.
While all of these other mothers and daughters can not stand to be in the same room with each other, my mom and I are best friends. I can't even describe the extent of our relationship because there are no words. I love you, Mom!
