To My Role Model, My Mom

I don't know why God has decided to bless me with a mother like you, but I am so thankful that He did.

To My Role Model, My Mom
Tala Winter

Since I was little, you've been the warmest light in my life. I don't know why God has decided to bless me with a mother like you, but I am so thankful that He did.

No matter what this crazy thing called life throws at me, I know I can get through it. That is all because of you.

You have so much strength, so much that I know you lend me some when I cannot find it myself. Somehow you do this without even fully knowing that you are doing it, which still astonishes me to this day.

You allow me to be completely myself, and you love every bit of it. Even if I feel alone, I know I never am. I always have you in my corner, someone who understands exactly what I am feeling.

Even if we haven't gone through the same things, you somehow make sense of everything I have been feeling. You listen, without judgment. You give me advice from the heart.

You always have my best interest in mind. That feeling is so reassuring. I know I can trust you to be completely honest with how you feel about the things that I tell you. In this world, that is hard to find.

Little do you know how much I admire the things that you tell me. One conversation with you can change my entire thought process. It can change my entire way of thinking. Sometimes I can get caught up in my head, feeling so much all the time. I know just by pouring it all out to you, I can start to think clearer. You make sense of the chaos.

Thank you for being my best friend, my role model, and my mom.

I aspire to be just a little bit like you. You are positive, strong, and such a beautiful person inside and out. You impact the world in such amazing ways, but you do it without expecting anything in return. You give so much of yourself to everyone, your heart stretches for miles long. You are always forgiving and being the bigger person in every situation. But at the same time, you are never forgetting who you are and your worth.

I look at you and see all things life has thrown at you, trying to knock you down. However, you never fall. You stand tall and let it make you grow stronger, wiser, braver. If you can do it, then I can, too.

I would love to see myself through your eyes because I know you see me the same way, even when I don't feel that way. Knowing that I have someone who views me in such a beautiful light, inspires me to see myself in that same way.

I hope you know how much I love you and the person you are.

Love always,

Your little girl.

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
