So far 2016 as a year for movies has been alright…. For mainstream movies it’s been awful but if you actually take the time to go out and try to see the lesser known movies, it’s been a pretty good year. The fall however is when things start to really get good so without further ado here are my top 10 most anticipated fall movies.
By the way don’t be upset if you don’t see your most anticipated on this list. This is my list and my opinion, please respect it
10. The Magnificent Seven
I’ll be honest, I’m getting more and more worried about this movie the closer we get to it. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot to look forward to about this movie, but the trailer looked like it was trying too hard to be the “next cool thing since Django Unchained”, but I love this cast. I’ve been wanting to see Denzel and Chris Pratt in a western movie for a while now and they look like they’re having loads of fun in this movie. I don’t expect this to be an Oscar contender but Antoine Fuqa possibly knows what he’s doing with this movie. He’s not one of my favorite directors but he’s known for making fun action movies and I think that’s what this movie should be.

9. The Edge of Seventeen
Yes, I’m actually looking forward to a high school movie more than The Magnificent Seven. But this movie actually looks really clever and funny. I really like Hailee Steinfeld as an actress and for a high school movie I think this looks pretty original. Who knows I could be dead wrong and it could be cliché’d and unfunny but I’m liking what I see so far.

8. Loving
This movie looks depressing as hell. But it also looks so beautiful. It follows the life of an interracial couple back in America in the 50s and in case you didn’t know that was forbidden. Jeff Nichols is directing this and in case you didn’t know he is an amazing director. He knows exactly what kind of tone to give his movies and he knows exactly what to do to make you feel the feels. I’ve never seen a movie like this try to get made and honestly I’m glad it is. Check out the trailer

7. Moana
This is some of the best animation I have ever seen. I’ve only seen a 2 and a half minute trailer….. I don’t know how they did it. Don’t disappoint me Disney.

6. 20th Century Woman
I love movies that are really only a persons life. This is the life of 3 women who explore love and freedom in California during the 70s, and for some reason to me that sounds intriguing. The director is Mike Mills who I think is a great director, especially for something like this. He’s a very independent director and I think he and this movie should keep it that way because I feel like if something like this fell on to the wrong studio or director it could go horribly wrong. I don’t know if this is a women empowerment movie or just a coming of age movie that just so happened to involve women, either way I can’t wait
No trailer has been released yet
5. Doctor Strange
IT'S DOCTOR STRANGE!!!!!

4. Moonlight
This movie just looks completely new to me. It’s from an independent director I never heard of but like I said before with 20th Century Woman, it follows someones life. This time it’s an African American man just trying to find his purpose in life after being raised in the wrong neighborhood. This movie went on to win multiple awards already which already gets me hyped, and it just looks different than most coming of age movies. I’m excited.

3. Arrival
Denis Villenuve is the director of movies like Prisoners and Sicario and in my opinion his most under rated: Enemy. So safe to say he has not let me down yet and Arrival from early screenings already sounds like it’s going to be his best one. With an all star cast and an amazing plot, I can’t wait to see what he does with a sci fi movie like this. It looks original, beautiful, and intense and I can’t wait.

2. Manchester By the Sea
This is a coming of age indie movie that looks absolutely heartbreaking. I love everyone involved in the cast and the director is someone I haven’t even heard of again. This looks intensely beautiful and original and early reviews are calling it the best movie of the year, I can’t wait to check it out.

- 1.La La Land
The director of this Damien Chazelle has made one of my favorite movies of all time ‘Whiplash’. So of course I’m looking forward to this most of all. It looks like old style cinema with Ryan Goslings surprisingly amazing singing voice and what looks like a really engaging love story. I love this cast, I love this director, and I love what I’m hearing so far. I need to see this now.
