To My Mini Me

Some people don't get to experience the mixed feelings of joy and frustration of being the older sibling, thanks to you I do.

To My Mini Me
Jordan Spradlin

Mimi,

I remember when Mom and Dad told me they were trying to have a baby, I was so excited to have another child in our family because I was on my own with just them. I remember each night kneeling by my bed, bowing my head and praying to God a prayer that sounded something like this, "God please give me a baby sibling. I want a bond like Bubba and Nini have with other one of us. It can be a boy or a girl, I really don't care. But PLEASEEEEE make it a girl."

Well he answered my prayers and then some because here we are fifteen years later. Having you as not only my little sister but my best friend has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. You are so loving, caring and original. No one on this earth compares to you. At such a young age you aren't afraid to stand up for what you believe in even it means you're left standing alone. I admire you so much for this quality among others.

Because of you in my life I have had the opportunity to grow so much as a person. You push me daily to be a better me and to work harder for what I want. I am more cautious of the decisions I make because of you. I know that you are always watching me to see what my next move is because you look up to me.

With you I always know I have a friend and someone on my team. No matter how mad we get with each other or how many times you kick me out of your room we're still sisters. We are and always have been partners in crime, when life is crazy I know I can just lay on the trampoline and vent to you. Though you may not understand what I am going through or even agree with it, you listen.

I am so proud of the young lady you are becoming. Everyone who knows you, in my opinion, is so very lucky. You are so kind hearted, loving, forgiving, generous and reliable. I cannot believe I get to call you my little sister. You are my sunshine on a cloudy day.

It's extra hard to be hours away from you. I don't get to hear how your day at school was or how your voice lessons went but it makes the times we do talk so much more special. Everyday I am amazed at how smart you.

There are no words that will ever describe how much you truly mean to me. I am so lucky to have been chosen to be your big sister. You make life ten times more interesting and enjoyable. You start everyday off with a smile, and a big cup of nasty Apple Juice. Just by being yourself you too have been a role model to me. You have taught me so much more than I ever thought you could.

I am so proud to have you as my little sister.

With love always,

Jordie

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
