When I was younger, I hated being outside. Especially in the super hot months of summer, when the sun would pound overwhelming on my ability to enjoy the outdoors. Or even in the frigid months of winter, when I would get bundled up to go outside and make snow angels, snowballs and whatever else my youthful heart desired. My time spent was usually very minimal before I grew tired of the cool air digging it's way deep into my bones, and I would go inside to warm up with some hot chocolate and my favorite blanket.
Only recently have I discovered my love for being outdoors. Whether it's a walk in the park or just relaxing on a bench, being outdoors is a friendly reminder of how beautiful the earth is. If I've been cooped up inside all day because of classes, I yearn to feel the fresh air on my skin when I step out the door into the outside world.
Taking a step back and taking in what nature has to offer can be a refreshing and insightful way to escape reality, even if it's just for a little while. In a world where it's so easy to become overwhelmed, the outdoors gives us a chance to breathe, soak in the environment and realize that everything is going to be OK.
As the seasons change, there is always something new going on outside, so there really is something for everyone. Whether you're favorite month is February or August, the way the outdoors dramatically changes within those months is aesthetically-pleasing to nature lovers such as myself.
Our time here on this planet is short, so I think taking in everything the environment has to offer us is a necessity of life. I definitely recommend spending some time outdoors each day, even if it's just for a few minutes. It's something that keeps me grounded, instantly relaxes my soul and mind, and serves as a way to enjoy this beautiful life we have each been blessed with.
