My Lonely Heart of Monmouth and Ocean Counties was formed back in August of 2014 by guitarist and lead singer Chris Russo and guitarist Dee DiMeola and soon added Drummer Adam Rarela and Bassist Tj Haefner. They released their EP Learning How to Live on August 25, 2015, and classify their genre as a fusion of pop punk and alternative rock.Their song 2 Years, 10 Seconds is the first single from their EP and is their most popular song.

Unfortunately, in the beginning of August, their drummer, Adam Rarela was killed in a car accident. This news hurt many people in the music scene along with Adam’s closest friends and family.

Adam was the youngest of three brothers at only 18 years old. He had just recently graduated from Marlboro High School and was getting ready to attend Kean University this month. Not only was Adam an amazing musician but he was also a kind-hearted soul. Adam was a passenger in a box truck that rear-ended a dump truck on Route 9 on the morning of August 5, 2016 (see Marlboro Teen Killed in Old Bridge Truck Crash)

On August 6, 2016, My Lonely Heart played their scheduled show at GameChanger World with Bad Case of Big Mouth. This set was very hard for the band to perform, but you could tell by the amount of emotion and they put into it that they wanted to make sure it was the best set they could perform to honor Adam.

Now almost a month later, My Lonely Heart is having a show to remember the life of Adam Rarela with the help of some of their close friends.

The band posted this on their Facebook on August 21, 2016:

“As most of you know, our drummer, Adam Rarela, is no longer with us. And we've slowly been learning to cope with our loss. Even though we've lost our brother, we know he's smiling down on us. We also know he'd want us to continue on with MLH, which is exactly what we are going to do. The first step to getting back on our feet is going to be a very special show. A show completely dedicated to Adam. With the help of our closest friends, we put together a memorial show that will take place at the New Egypt Firehouse on September 10th. Please come help us celebrate the beautiful life of Adam. Admissions will be donations that will go to Rarela family! Spread word to all of your friends and family. Let's pack this show and make Adam proud!”

The show will take place on September 10, 2016, in New Egypt, New Jersey at the New Egypt Firehouse. All proceeds from the show are going to the Rarela Family to help them during such a hard time! If you are available to make it out for the show My Lonely Heart along with Adam’s family and friends would be grateful to have you come and celebrate his amazing life!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
