My Little Sister Is My Best Friend

When I was little, people always told me that when I get older my sister would become my best friend. I never ever believed it. My sister and I used to fight all the time. Not just the typical arguments, my sister and I used to actually physically fight each other. I remember kicking her in the stomach and knocking her to the ground and walking away as if it was no big deal. I just never would of thought that she would become one of my best friends.

My little sister and I are eighteen months apart from each other. Maybe that’s why we used to fight all the time as kids. We were always so close in age and pretty much had to do everything together. It was just something that we did not like to have to do. Of course, there were times when we were playing together like best friends, but that probably lasted about ten minutes before we started fighting each other. She used to bite me on the back, push me into bathtubs, and push me down the stairs. She was so mean. I mean I wasn’t much better, I did kick her in the stomach. We used to buttheads all the time!

It was not until my junior year of college that we actually started to become really close. Actually, that was when we became best friends and I realized that everyone was right. As we grow up, our siblings become our best friends and biggest fans. How did we become so close?

When my sister was in high school she had her heart broken and it tore her apart. She hit rock bottom and I watched her. It happened again the summer before my junior year of college, and again I watched her hit rock bottom. The beginning of my junior year, I had my heart broken and I hit rock bottom. I hit rock bottom fast and was just not able to climb back up. It wasn’t until my sister stepped in that I began to recover from having the most devastating thing happen to me.

She had experience with what I was going through and she ended up becoming my biggest support system. We both recovered together, we started to do more and more together and just be there for each other. It was so weird to just see us be able to spend time with each other and not fight at all. We recently went on a vacation to Florida and managed to spend a whole week without fighting at all. My parents were impressed to say the least.

Maybe it happened for a unique reason or maybe this is how most siblings become close, but I did not ever expect this to happen. People were right about us becoming best friends. I guess in a sense we could thank our ex boyfriends for breaking our hearts because it brought us closer. I mean she is now my best friend!

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
