My January 2017 Playlist

With the new year here and ready, it presents an opportunity to start anew. And what better way to start out is with a solid music playlist? With a playlist, you can accomplish anything. So take a second and make a playlist to go along with your resolutions. 2016 was an incredible year for music, and I am sure 2017 will bring an even more impressive year for artists and audiences alike. As we go through the year, it is good to have a playlist to match what is going on in your life, so sit back and relax, and stay tuned each month for a new playlist!

1. Sunday Candy by Donnie Trumpet & the Social Experiment

The New Year began on a Sunday, so what better song to celebrate with? With it's poppy-gospel, upbeat style and the real, anecdotal lyrics, it makes you want to dance and sing and jump into 2017 with high hopes.

2. Best for Last by Adele

Lyrics to live by:

"You should know that you're just a temporary fix/
This is not rooted with you it don't mean that much to me/ Oh just a filler in the space that happened to be free/ How dare you think you'd get away with trying to play me"

3. Show Me Love by Hundred Waters

This song is just a reminder to show love and to be a better person this year. Remember, it is important to not only love others, but to love yourself as well. The beginning of the new year is perfect for working on personal growth.

4. Blessings by Chance the Rapper

We should all be blessed to have made it to another year; some were not as lucky. Don't forget to count your blessings and pay it forward.

5. Timing is Everything by Garrett Hedlund

As we get older, it is important to acknowledge timing. Don't freak out about deadlines and what you may think you have to do. Take it one step at a time, and your year should be successful and happy.

6. We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel

After everything that has happened in 2016, now is the time to defeat the issues that were so prevalent in 2016 that will carry over into 2017. Contrary to belief, we cannot blame a whole year on the things that happened. The world has been through hard times and has lived to tell the cautionary tale. This is the year to fight!

7. The Way I Live by Baby Boy Da Prince

Remember not to forget to have some fun! We're going to have a long year ahead of us, and we will all need time to let loose and live our lives. Just concentrate on you this month and work on maintaining goals and work towards a happier, healthier you! Don't let anyone break your stride, and you should be in for a good year.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
