My Hopes For A Trump Presidency

I personally want him to get those hand gestures under control

President Trump. It invokes a sense of dread in some people and a sense of hope in others. Me? I am right in the middle. There are many things worse than President Trump in my book, but those are few and far between. However, I am not sitting here actively wishing for Trump to do something catastrophic. Or wishing him much ill-will at all. Like it or not, he was elected as president and now we have to reap what we have sown.

One analogy I have heard from a few people around me has compared President Trump to the captain of our ship. The ship being, of course, America. Like anytime you are on a vehicle being piloted by another person, you do not hope they crash said vehicle. Wanting Trump to fail is like wanting the captain of the ship you are on to crash it into a coral reef. Those who wish Trump to do bad are simply wanting to crash the boat, kill everyone on board, simply to see one man fail. That is not okay and nor will it ever be okay. Qualification questions aside, he is now steering the boat and you better find a life-raft and start shouting directions.

So if I am not wishing for President Trump to fail, what am I wishing for? I am wishing for him to do a stellar job in some aspects and hoping he falls flat on his face in others. This does not mean I am wishing for him to run our country to the ground. Just as with many other presidential edicts, I am hoping that specific ones to not reach true fruition. However, I am hoping overall Trump can keep some of his campaign promises and also keep his nose out of business he has no reasoning sticking it in the first place. Yes, you can hope for someone to do well in the position they are elected in, without wanting all of their ideas to be made concrete. It is called compromising.

One thing good which has undoubtedly come from this presidency is the awareness of how our electoral system is run (specifically gerrymandering in my own case) and the high turnout of those exercising their freedom of speech and protest. Yes, there has been some violent protests. However, there has been a multitude more peaceful than violent. Most of these violent protests started out peaceful until certain groups of people decided to use it to their own advantage. Do not let the actions of the few cloud the actions of the many doing things correctly.

People are now, more than ever in the past few years, turning out in droves to speak out on what they think is wrong and what is worth preserving. While we may have President Trump, we now also have citizens who will not side by idly and take his decisions at face-value. Involved citizens in our nation will question Trump when he does something that needs scrutiny. They will speak up to injustices. Yes, I am not fond of President Trump, but I am also confident our nation will be fine in the long run, just as it has throughout its many, many peaceful transitions of power and questionable past presidents.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
