My Hiatus From Odyssey

Sometimes you need a break.

My Hiatus From Odyssey

This past semester, I was absent from the Odyssey. I made the decision to take a break from the Odyssey because my classes were more demanding than expected. I suddenly was producing a TV show episode, running a social media campaign for a local organization, and had an internship on a documentary. (Plus two jobs but we won't talk about those.)

Thus, my content was failing and I hated it. It was nothing against Odyssey, more against me. But I must say, having this break from making myself produce content every week has really helped my creative juices renew and I actually feel like I’m doing well in school and can publish articles that I am proud of.

This is an article to say it’s okay to have to take a break from something every once in a while. If it’s something you love but you start to spite it, it’s time to step back for a while. Writing has always been my passion and I never want to let it go indefinitely. Since I stopped forcing myself to write so much, my writing is better and more passionate. I feel like most creative people go through a phase like this where they have to take a break and wait for that muse to come back. (Not saying that my muse is back, but I'm trying to get it back.)

So, I am going to try my hardest to produce content that makes me proud and is something I am interested in and love. It may be hard at first, but I think it'll be worth it in the end.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
