My Harry Potter Dedication

As we await the next installment of magic, let's think about what Harry means to us.

The magical world of Harry Potter has impacted lives all over the world. Children and adults alike enjoy both the books and movies while dreaming of magic. There is nothing more powerful in a world filled with tragedy than an escape into a world of magic and wonder. When picking up a "Harry Potter" book or popping in a "Harry Potter" DVD, we show that we are never willing to let go of our portal to Hogwarts and all of its magical secrets. With the release of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," I thought I would go over why Harry Potter is so special to me.

1. Opening the cover of a "Harry Potter" book was my escape into a magical place.

I never felt as though I was just an observer when I read the books; I always felt like I was walking alongside Harry, Hermione and Ron as they wandered the corridors of Hogwarts or roamed the streets of Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley. With them, my world was barely an afterthought and they could be my main focus for a majority of my time.

2. Both the books and the movies could keep me entertained for hours on end.

Nothing could pry my attention away from my copy of "The Half Blood Prince" and no amount of persuasion could stop me from watching every movie for 23 hours with my friends during fall break. I sat on that couch with dedication and watched Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint age before my eyes.

3. These characters meant the world to me, like they did to many.

With every emotion I read on the page, I felt in my heart. When I read Hermione feeling alone and being jealous of Lavender and Ron, I saw it in my head and I understood how she felt. These are not flat or untouchable characters; they are characters that mirror the everyday emotions that so many children and teenagers feel while growing up.

4. This is the one thing from my childhood that I can never outgrow.

There are always things that we love while growing up, that we are told we will not care about as we age, but "Harry Potter" will never be one of those things. I am 20 and I go to Universal Studios and Island of Adventures while wearing my Hufflepuff robes with my interactive wand with absolutely no shame.

5. My love of "Harry Potter" has brought me closer to some great people.

I made some wonderful friends based off of common interests, but some of my best ones have come from our love of "Harry Potter." Our conversations could last for hours, and they have. We have had countless "Harry Potter" marathons while eating Chinese food and pie.

As we Potterheads await our next glimpse into Harry's world, let us all reminisce on the magic of his past in the books and movies and imagine what we will see from him soon.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
