My Greatest Blessings

Without my family, I would be nothing.

My Greatest Blessings
Christina Conti

Life is full of amazing things. It is full of beautiful days, amazing friends and family and amazing memories. Life is full of laughing babies, puppies and movie nights with your best friends. Life is full of these things, but life can also be full of difficult times. More often, however, my life is full of many blessings. The biggest blessing in my life is my family. I've had people ask me to describe myself, and the first thing I usually say is that I love my family. I love my family, and I know they would always be there for me no matter what I have done or no matter where I am in my life. They hold me together when I have had a rough day and inspire me to be a better person each and every day.

My greatest blessings in life would have to be my family. Whether I am receiving a video of my nephew who is six months old babbling, or getting a text from my Nana (yes, my grandma can text), my family is always making me smile. When your entire family including aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents live within an hour of each other, you grow up at family events. Life has blessed me with an amazing family. Through hard times and times full of great joy, my family is always standing right beside me. Holidays are that much more exciting with 30 people to celebrate with every year. Birthdays mean that much more when your entire family is sitting around the table when you blow out your candles.

My role models come from my family. They have taught me what I want for my future as well as how I should act. My parents will always be one of my greatest role models. They continue to keep God the center of their lives while they love each other and my sisters and I. They have been married for over 25 years, and their love is a perfect example of what I hope to have one day with my husband. They work hard every day to provide for me and give my sisters and I the best life possible. My grandparents were married 50 years and were also an amazing example of God's love. They went to church every Sunday and loved each other and their four sons more than anything.

My two older sisters are uniquely different and yet a huge inspiration to me everyday. My oldest sister is an amazing mom with three young children. Her patience and love for her children is something I one day hope to have. My middle sister is dedicated. She is dedicated to becoming a vet and doing well in school. She is dedicated to get her degree and be an amazing veterinarian. I hope I can continue through my schooling and be as dedicated and passionate as she is.

Some people don't understand my love for my family, and that's OK. Everyone has those people in their life that inspire them to be more than they are at that current time. Whether it is your friends, boyfriend/girlfriend or sorority sisters/ fraternity brothers, there is always going to be someone in your life that inspires you. People that you would consider to be the biggest blessing in your life. For me, that is my family. Through all of the weird and goofy times, I wouldn't trade them for the world.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
