If I had a nickle for every time someone told me how bad my generation was, I would have a lot of nickles.
It is completely normal for the older generation to criticize the actions of the younger generation. It is a never ending cycle that repeats itself constantly. To a certain extent the older generation has a right to bash ours. Their generation has stood in our shoes and made stupid mistakes just as our generation has.
I take the constructive criticism of those before me, but I do not wear it on my sleeves. Although I come from a generation that enjoys over priced coffee and chasing Pokemon daily, my generation stands strong on their beliefs.
I come from a generation that is more diverse than any other. Unlike the generations before mine, we look past what is on the outside and dig deeper. I am not saying my generation is perfect. Every generation has their downfalls, but my generation is standing for what we truly believe in. Whether it be political views, education or religion. My generation is taking a stand for what is morally right.
Somewhere down the road bashing each other instead of kissing babies has become a priority for those in quest of the throne in the Oval Office. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have spent more time during the 2016 canidacy degrading each other rather than speaking on what they are going to do for the United States. Many of those in my generation have found the bias and divisional disposition of the media and the sheepish nature of humans a joke.
Of course Trump has went on endlessly about building the wall and Clinton the same with making debt free college, but shouldn't we be a little more concerned about bigger issues at hand?
I took the time to ask some of those in my generation if they were voting during the 2016 elections. The majority of the people that I asked said that they would not be voting at all. When asked for reasoning, their response was that they did not find neither Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton fit to be the next president of their country.
The next time you decide to judge my generation and state that we are not voting because we are simply lazy and do not care, think twice about it. My generation has adopted a firm position about the issue at hand. My generation is not just going to mark a name on a ballot.
My generation wants their decision and vote to actually mean something.
