Any millennial has heard the term before. "Gaydar" is both gay and radar mashed into one single word, meant to define the sense used to determine someone's sexuality. The other night at about midnight, my friend and I were FaceTiming and we somehow got onto the topic of gaydar. Essentially, she posed the question to me "What do you think a gaydar really is?" Well, I'm going to delve into my theories in the least scientific and purely theoretical way, because of course, I have no real clue what the gaydar could be. That's what I'm here to find out.

I've heard people say its just obvious. You can tell by the way people dress or how they act.

My response is simple.

But no, it definitely has to be based off what they like to do, right? Like, I know I knew I was gay because I had a fun time doing things I enjoyed. It just makes it all so obvious.

OR! Or maybe it's an app that you use to track people until you find the most fabulous! (see Andi Osho's video)

Alright, but no, on a serious note what really Is a gaydar? Does it even exist? My friend and I hypothesized that a Gaydar was something that had to do with pheromones, similar to how pheromones are what attract you to a given person. While we have no scientific facts to back this up, we believe some people have a "strong Gaydar" because they can pick up on the pheromones, while others can't.

Lets go over some of the basics: Firstly, what is a pheromone? Well, essentially it is your sweat. In more complex terms, its a chemical you create that directly affects others of the same species. So for example, many people can understand when someone is nervous based on their sweating, etc. Here is an article that even references a study done on how gay males preferred the sweat of other gay males, while straight males preferred the sweat of straight women.

While of course this does not bring us to any conclusions, it brings this English-major to the conclusion that the gaydar is real, and its based on a primal attraction that many of us aren't even aware of, not stereotypes that many people deem signs.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
