Sitting here in class at the University, I often come to think about the future and where my education may take me. I think about my classroom, the grade level I’ll be teaching, what our classroom set up will look like, and what books and activities I’ll be doing with my students.

Going out into the field for observation, I see different teachers, different classrooms and many different students. What gets me thinking the most is the young students that will be sitting in my classroom someday.

I am only three years into my education and at the end of my journey here, I will hopefully be in a classroom teaching those young students. It is the thought of the young ones that pushes me to continue to do my best. I am doing everything I can so the students get the best experience in our classroom.

For the young students that will be in my classroom someday, here is what I can promise you now:

Whoever you are, regardless of sex, age, race or background, you will be valued as the whole student you are when you walk through the doors of our classroom. Our classroom will be where you can let your imagination take you places; there are no limits. When you walk through the doors on the first day, it will only give you a glimpse of what our year will be like. Our walls will never be empty, always full of life and color with your work.

When you talk, I will listen. I will listen to every word you have to say and take into account all your voices and your opinions. I will use your knowledge, as well as mine, to continue to teach you. There are times when your words and thoughts may teach me things before I even teach you. I will be there everyday teaching you, but everyday you will also teach me. With that, students after you will benefit because you will only make me a better teacher.

I promise that everyday you will smile, even though you’re at school. I know as a little kid you dread going to school, but as your future teacher I promise to make school enjoyable for you everyday.

I promise to show up to school everyday, no matter how tired I am or what is going on in my life and put it to the side. You will always get my 110 percent everyday. I will go to any lengths to teach you and make sure you understand everything you need to know. If you come to me, or say you don’t understand something, I will do anything and everything I can do to help you understand.

I hope that our classroom will be as enjoyable for you as it will be for me. I am doing everything I can now to be the best teacher for you. The overall promise I can make to you is that I will do my best for you, everyday. I owe you at lease that.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

53
Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).
