What You Need To Know Before Going To A General Admission Concert

When I was at the Two Door Cinema Club concert in Chicago on Friday, I was observing everyone around me. I realized that at any type of concert, you will always find different groups of people. It was my first General Admission concert and I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew it would be something different from all the other concerts I had gone to. If your next concert is a GA concert, here are some things you'll need to know:

The people:

Big Fans

The biggest fans are the ones who always get to the concert way before it starts and are ready to jam it up. Some will get super excited for anything that happens on stage, and others will start to get annoyed when the opening act takes too long.

Couples

Wherever I looked around, I saw that there were couples e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. They were in front of me and next to me. It was bad enough that sometimes I couldn't see, but it was a bit worse when the only view I had was of a couple kissing. It was kind of weird and awkward for me.

Tall people

I consider myself kind of tall and that's only because all my girl friends have always been shorter than me. It's like once you need to be a decent height, it feels like you aren't. There were times where I saw a person's back of the head. Secretly I hoped that they would move and dance around to the music to a spot where I was able to see the band well; for the most part it did happen.

Friends

As soon as I walked in, there were many groups of friends together ready to see the show. Many people go to concerts in groups or with one other person. It was kind of annoying when I was trying to get a good view, but groups of friends would take up a lot of space. During the show, I even saw people get pushed around because more friends were meeting up and it just made everyone get tighter together.

Get there early:

You'll want to get to the event early that way you can get at the front of the stage and have the perfect view of the band or singer. It will make your experience even better. If you get to the event early, of course you will have to wait longer, but it will be worth it because you will have the perfect view. You won't have to worry about not being able to see or people blocking your view. If you're at the front or near it, you won't have a problem!

Money:

If you know you'll get thirsty or hungry, get some snacks. Keep in mind though that some items can get a bit pricey, so be prepared to spend some a good amount of that. If you're the type of person like me, you're going to want to take some cash to buy something. I love getting shirts from a concert I go to. You can get the artist's tour shirt and wear it all the time. Just remember to take cash too!

I loved being at the concert. I love the band and I loved the atmosphere of the event. If you're going to a GA concert I recommend to go with people that you know will make you have a fun time. Oh and of course, be prepared to be in a clutter of people, so you will feel hot. Other than that, have fun and dance and sing to the songs!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
