As My Friend, You Should Know This About Me

I haven't told you these things, but you should know more about me.

As My Friend, You Should Know This About Me

I really appreciate having friends. Friends are the people that make you laugh until you cry, give you advice, and hang out with you when you're missing their presence. I don't have a ton of friends; I have a lot of acquaintances though. I love them as well. But my friends have shown me that they care about me enough to let me tag along on this thing called life. My friends know a lot about me, but I want to let them know, and anyone else who would like to be my friend, some things I think are important to know about me as a friend.

Please remember that I am an introvert. Sometimes, I love to talk and make plans to do things. Other times (honestly, most of the time), I am way more comfortable doing my own thing. I don't always have the strength to be socially active. I promise if I don't answer your call or I tell you that I can't hang out, I still love you! It can sometimes be a little overwhelming to constantly interact with people. The crazy thing is that I experience a lot of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). So even if I tell you that I cannot hang out, I might see you on Snapchat with other friends, and I get a little jealous. Being an introvert is weird.

Giving advice is not one of my strengths. I like to think that I am pretty empathetic. I want to be there for you whenever you're going through a tough time. However, I suck at giving advice. The only advice I ever give is to try to stay positive. After that, I have no idea what else to say. So if you come to me while in a bad place, I will 100% be there for you! I am just better at being there for you than telling you what you should do to make a situation better.

Something I am working on as a person is pushing myself to ask questions. The most simple questions can sometimes be really hard for me to ask. As your friend, I want to make memories and take pictures to remember them. I feel like I have zero pictures with my friends because I'm too nervous to ask. I think that my friends may not want to take pictures with me (I don't know why). So if we're doing something and I ask if we can take pictures, please indulge my request! Or maybe just ask me if I want to take a picture; I promise, I will always be down.

These things are kind of random, but I think they are important to know about me. I love being a friend, and I always want to make my relationships better. I think that if you know more about your friend, you'll be able to love them in the way they need most.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
