I absolutely love college football, which shouldn't be surprising since I play it. Nevertheless, I have always felt that the atmosphere for college football games just have a different vibe than professional, especially for rivalry games. So with the season winding down, I thought I would talk about some of my favorite rivalries and why. Keep in mind i'm not saying these are the best rivalries, just the ones I enjoy watching the most.
- Army vs. Navy - This rivalry recently picked back up some steam after Army ended a 13 year drought of losing to Navy. Being that I come from a military family, this game has peaked my interest since I was young. Although it's rare to see these two competing for national titles or anything of the sort, this game is treated with the respect it deserves. It is always the final regular season game of the year and it always includes a packed house at Lincoln Financial Field, filled with men from both academies. On top of that this game includes the triple option showcase, as both teams use different wing-bone and veer sets for their offense. It's an offense barely run nowadays and I personally love watching it, but I'm biased because I used it back in high school.
- Ohio State vs Michigan - I personally may have not started to get into this rivalry until high school, but I'm glad I'm into it now. The history between these two is unprecedented and I think runs deeper than any other rivalry. Moreover, it seems like no matter what the record is of either team, they always play each other competitively. There’s a reason this rivalry is nicknamed “The Game”.
- Alabama vs Auburn- I know this would be a popular answer for many but it is impossible for me not to include it. Historically it's up there with many but it’s also included many defining moments, like the kick-six, Cam’s comeback and etc.
- Miami vs Notre Dame- You know your rivalry is good when you don't play each other every year and yet they still make a documentary on it. With this rivalry we tend to get not only good on the field play (with the exception of this year), but we also get a clash in two very different cultures, which is something I think we don't get to see in many match-ups.
- Virginia Tech vs Virginia- It's starting to get to the point that I can't call this game a rivalry, but as a Virginia Tech fan I had to put it in. While Tech has dominated the series for over a decade now, there is no denying that these two programs are still at odds with each other, especially for recruiting supremacy in-state.
