Okay, I am going to keep this one pretty brief. Here are three things I already learned while transitioning from high school to college:
1) The food is absolutely limitless...and so are your choices based upon them.
Yes, there are all types of food selections all over campus. There are cultural cuisines, kosher selections, vegetarian selections, old fashioned food selections, and of course the desserts (can't forget the desserts EVER). While browsing the dining halls, though, I couldn't help but feel this new sense of power to choose. Before college, I would always eat what my family cooked for me, and I always enjoyed them. They always put love into my meals. Now here, on campus, though, I had the right to choose what to put into my body, how much to pay for it (based on the weight consumed), and when to eat the food. Now I heard about the freshman fifteen, and I will have to say that it can happen; however, with this new freedom to choose what to eat, how much to eat, and when to eat, I think the freshman fifteen can be just as much as a myth than it can be inevitable. It all starts with you and the choices you make.
2) The campus is HUGE, and it can make you slack off on the exercise; however, there can still be no excuses.
I think I have been walking around campus, taking more steps in a single day than the rest of my life before college! Despite this, though, it is still important to exercise and get physically active, ideally breaking a sweat.
3) Balance is everything. I have made so many friends in the first week alone.
At the same time, I already got piled with endless homework, not to mention all of the chores and meetings I had to commit to. The key to surviving all of this is to find time to do everything by breaking the schedule into chunks. That way, we can retain information from homework, hang out with friends, attend important meetings, and keep a healthy lifestyle.
