I Went To The ER For The First Time Ever, And Here's How It Went

I actually wasn't that anxious about it.

I Went To The ER For The First Time Ever, And Here's How It Went
Julie Simison

Monday night I went to the ER. I really debated whether or not I needed to, but I'm kinda glad I did. Earlier in the night, I was feeling a little dizzy, but I figured that was because I was making fast movements. At least until I, what felt like, almost passed out. I was laying in my bed eating a granola bar and drinking water. At one point I was looking up taking a bite of my granola bar when all the sudden I felt really light headed. I went to look over at my roommate's wall and it looked like the room was moving. My vision was blurry and I started leaning towards my computer; not being able to stop myself. I then texted two of my group chats freaking out because I had never had anything like that happen to me before. However, at this point, I didn't think I needed to go to the hospital. I thought it was a one time, freak thing until it happened again. After the second one, I was debating it. My deciding factor was whether or not I'd be able to walk. When I tried I was very wobbly and it wasn't good. I ended up having someone from my Odyssey group chat take me.

We got to the hospital around eleven at night. It was kind of weird because I didn't really know how to check into the ER especially since I didn't necessarily look sick. After checking me in they took me into the back to check my blood pressure and then had me wait in the lobby until they had a bed ready. When I got to my bed they had me undress from the top up and put on a gown. They then put in an IV and a blood pressure cuff. After the doctor came in I told him what was going on and he ordered an EKG, an x-ray, and blood test. This was pretty much the last time I saw the doctor. Nurses really do run the hospital. Like if you think about it the nurses are always there and they're the ones to take blood samples or take another test.

When they told me that I was going to get an EKG done I sarcastically said I love EKGs. However, I really don't think it came across that way because the nurse then said, "Wow, that was the first time I've heard that". At one point I also said that I use humor to cover my pain and only my friend and I laughed. I definitely don't think the nurses found me amusing. I thought I was pretty funny though. I also started to get tired around 12 and wanted to sleep, but like I kinda felt like I needed to stay awake which sucked. We ended up staying there for about three hours and I think I got back to my dorm at like 2:30 in the morning.

All the test came back normal, so there wasn't a definite reason for me feeling like I was going to pass out. I am still happy I went in though because I was listening to my body and it really did seem like something was wrong. So I am completely fine, and I probably won't be dying anytime soon. Also, sorry mom for the medical bill; I love you.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
