My First Six Flags Experience

I lived the 'ride or die' motto for a day

Six Flags is known for it's intense and wild roller coasters. Even though I love roller coasters, I had never been to the amusement park that's known for having the tallest roller coaster in New Jersey. Luckily this summer my field hockey team decided to take a team trip to Six Flags Great Adventure for team bonding. Needless to say, the trip really was a 'Great Adventure.' Since it was my first time I decided to rate the rides based on overall enjoyment so then for next time, I know which rides are the best. With help and input from other teammates we ended up going on 8 rides, and some more than once! Here is our opinion on each of the rides.

1. Kingda Ka

Kingda Ka was the first ride of the day I went on with my group. There was about 6 of us and we literally ran to it eager to get on early to avoid a line. All the running we did in field hockey pre season definitely paid off because we beat the big line and barely had to wait to go on. Since I didn't know what to expect I was honestly less nervous not knowing, although the high peak of the ride did intimidate me a little. The ride starts slow, then stops, then LAUNCHES at top speed so before you know it you're already at the top and then it's over. Overall, it was a short ride but totally worth.

Rating: 5/5

Team Input:

"The ride didn't give you enough time to pee your pants."

"I'm not a roller coaster person but this was awesome."

2. Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom

I am a huge fan of rides that have a big drop! So hearing that a ride was literally called 'Drop of Doom' I was very prepared to have a great time on this ride. There was no line for this ride, but it was a long walk to get to it. Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom is in the middle of Kingda Ka so we're essentially underneath it starting off. Unfortunately the ride was having a lot of technical difficulties so we got stuck a few feet off the ground and then had to come down. Although I didn't get to really ride it, next time I come back I definitely plan on riding it.

Rating: N/A

3. Superman

As per the rest of the rides, I had no idea what to expect. I didn't even know you ride it facing downwards until I got to the front of the line. Asking for my friends advice and opinion she said "this was my second time and I honestly feel more prepared because going backwards is harder." I nervously boarded the ride and after the seats unceremoniously flipped backwards, we took off. Superman was probably my favorite ride of the day. Although seeing large blue polls hanging around you is daunting, going backwards was a totally new way to experience a roller coaster.

Rating: 5/5

4. Green Lantern

Keeping with superhero theme and unexpected ways to ride a roller coaster, Green Lantern was definitely...an experience. Personally this was probably my least favorite ride of the day, but a lot of my friends and teammates enjoyed. On the group before us someone had vomited so we had to wait a little longer to get on. I honestly don't blame the person who vomited because going on an 154 ft. roller coaster standing up is harder than it sounds. Although there is some foam around the top so your head doesn't get hurt, I still had a small headache after the ride finished. As your head bobbles during the ride it hurts your ears, especially if you're wearing earrings. I am glad I tried it, but I don't think I'll do it again.

Rating: 2/5

5. Twix

After the insane Green Lantern ride, we decided to take it easy for one and try Twix. It's a spinning ride that isn't too crazy. Unfortunately I was not able to go on the ride because I had sandals on and to ride it you need close-toed shoes. Just watching it made my head spin but it still looked very enjoyable. Like we all expected Twix was "nothing thrilling compared to the other rides but it's still fun!"

Rating: 3/5

6. El Toro

El Toro is huge. You can see it from almost everywhere in the park! For some reason there were no long lines at almost any of the rides we went to so getting on was very fast! Much like Superman the wood bars along the way make you feel like you're going to hit something, but luckily it never happened. This ride had a huge compilation of different things, like drops and sharp turns. After we finished the ride manager announced that the next ride would be the last of the day so we got to ride it again without having to get back in line. El Toro was even better the second and very fun!

Rating: 4/5, 5/5

7. Bizzaro

Bizzaro was 100% bizarre. It's in the back of the park, but Bizzaro is painted bright purple so you can't miss it! This was the only ride we really had to wait in a line to go on. The wait wasn't that bad though because it finally let us catch our breath after going on so many crazy rides one-after-another. Bizzaro was a fun experience and we had a lot of fun. One of my teammates explained it as "not too scary but still exciting enough to be a solid ride."

Rating: 4/5

8. Houdini's Great Escape

Houdini's Great Escape was the first ride that really suprisied our group as a whole. Since it takes place inside we had no indication for what to expect. When you first go in you're put in this dark room and told a story about Houdini's death. After the ghost story is over you go to another room and sit. Not to spoil the whole ride, but we had to go twice because it feels like watching a magic trick. The ride plays with your sense. We couldn't completely figure out what happens until we asked the ride operator.

Rating: 5/5, 5/5

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
