Being a freshman in college I knew I wasn't going to have the best first semester grades in the world, but I still hoped for the best. I was one of those first-year students that did not transition so well to college life. Anyways, my first semester was rough; home sickness was killing me, it took me a very long time to talk to people and make friends, and my roommate situation was not the best. Going through all of this really started to affect my grades, but I knew at the end of the day I tried my best since it was my first semester in college.

For those of you who watch the television show New Girl, when I say the name Nick Miller, everyone knows who I am talking about and how much he struggles on a daily basis. This is my first semester of college as told my Nick Miller:

1. Move-In Day

The day that every college student has been waiting for. You finally get to meet your roommate(s) in person (if you haven't already). You get to decorate a brand new room anyway that you want and it is the first step of officially becoming a college student.

2. First Day of Classes

Me being the anxious person that I am, I decided to take the free time I had during Welcome Week and use it to walk around campus and find out where each of my classes are knowing that I would most likely get lost trying to find them. Needless to say, even with all of that planning and wasting time getting lost then, I still ended up getting lost and was almost late to my first Composition class.

3. Missing Your Friends Back Home

Me and one other friend were the only people moving out of state to attend college, so seeing all of my friends being able to get together with each other over the weekend just killed me inside. i so badly just wanted to hop on the next bus and come home for the weekend. But instead I scrolled through my phone or looked at printed picture of my friends back at home and mopped around in my dorm.

4. Mid-Terms

I was fortunate enough to have fairly easy classes and didn't need to study an ungodly amount of time in order to feel prepared for my mid-year exams. Plus, a lot of my professors were very easy when it came to grading mid-term exams and/or papers. But of course, I still felt the stress of mid-terms considering it was my very first big college exam(s).

5. Making the Bold Choice to Leave My "Dream School"

As people know from before, Hofstra was just not the place for me and it took a lot of days sitting in my room alone to find out what I want out of my college experience. It was also a lot of inner screaming at myself trying to figure out what the f*ck I wanted to do with my life, considering I finally had the choice my make the decision on my own. Of course, it was hard to leave the friends I had made there, but I knew at the end of the day I needed to make a choice that was going to benefit me in the long run.

Overall, my first semester was a learning experience. If I didn't go through all of the things I did between professors, friend, and myself I wouldn't be in the state of mind I'm in right now. I feel as though the first semester was a trial run for me and I cannot wait to see what next semester brings to me.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
