My First Love, My Father

It's sure nice talking to you dad, it's been sure nice talking to you.

Of all the holidays and "national whatever days," I think some of the best are the ones that celebrate our parents. The reasons we have life, our backbone, our support system, our number one fans. Fathers specifically. They coach you, they guide you, the give you tough love whether you like it or not; there's no other man quite like a father.

They say a dad is a daughter's first love. They also say girls typically fall for guys like their fathers. I don't know who "they" are, but they seem to have all the answers. If I marry a man like my dad, I'll be quite alright in life.

He'll be wise beyond belief. I don't know anyone who has life more figured out than my dad. When anything seems to go wrong, he has the answers. When he just wants to tell you a story from his past, there's some kind of lesson involved. That lesson could very well be serious and about life or maybe just one relating to beer, both of which are very important I might add.

He'll be a hard worker. He'll work hard at his job no matter what it may be. A teacher, a doctor, a taxi driver, and car salesman, maybe a police officer, he'll never be lazy when it comes to his job. He'll work hard at home too. In the yard, with his kids, in the house. It doesn't matter what it is he'll be doing, he'll be putting everything he has into it.

He'll be a family man. And to whatever family we may have. Maybe he'll coach our kids' sports teams, or we'll go have lunch with his mom once a week. Maybe he'll be best friends with my brothers, maybe he'll watch Sunday football at my parents' house. No matter what the dynamic, a family man for sure.

He'll put others first. If he has a long to-do list, if he has prior obligations, if he has to completely rearrange his schedule, if someone else is calling him for help, he'll be there without question.

He'll always make you laugh. From old jokes to making fun of new things to remembering something stupid that happened years ago, you can always count on laughing with him.

He will love you unconditionally. If you did something wrong and need his support, you have it. If you two got into an argument, it was probably for your well-being. If you think you have no one to confide in, think again. Unconditionally means unconditionally, and he knows that.

So if the saying is true, I'm going to marry someone like my dad, I think I'll be in good shape. We may get caught up in life and not always show how much we appreciate our dads' and all that they do for us and all the great qualities they share with us, but it doesn't mean we don't.

To you dad, another Father's day celebrating the greatness that you are. I can't give you back the world right now, but with the support and motivation you've given me over the years, hopefully, one day I can.

Alright, alright. Enough with the sappiness. Everyone go pound a beer with your old man.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
