Moving away to school is hard especially moving away from friends and family. There are so many things that change and if you're like me, change doesn't go over well. Worrying about the classes, the campus, making friends, and most of all roommates. Luckily, being a junior transfer, I was placed in an apartment. The only drawback was being placed with three other random girls.
Meeting my roommates for the first time was intimidating and scary. We met at a local diner and just talked. Things seemed to go over really well, and for the first time, I met the girl I would share a floor with. Even though I didn't have to share a room (thank goodness), I shared the floor and a bathroom with her. From the second we met, I knew we'd be friends.
Her quiet and warm-hearted personality went really well with mine, and for some odd reason, I felt more at home sharing a floor with her. All of us got really close, really fast. Taking in all of the social events school had to offer. The more I got to know her and spend time with her, the closer we became. Soon enough, it's like we had known each other for ages.
From our late nights out to the sushi dates to making it through the semesters, we just meshed really well. Memories were made almost instantly. Surviving my first year at school, I knew I could always look to her for a smile and a laugh. I always knew, for a fact, that she had my back.
Let me tell you something about roommates. Compared to you're parents, they are almost exactly like you in the sense that you're both young adults and have no clue how to live on your own. These new people you live with are searching just like you are. They too are scared and worried about this new experience. The great thing is that they are right there with you.
The best thing was that she was right down the hall.
Even through rough patches, we found our places in each others lives. Through thick and thin, she will always be my very first roommate and my best friend.
