If you are a "Criminal Minds" fan like me, then you were very sad to see Derek Morgan leave the show. This is about the same emotional train I went through when Derek Shepherd passed away on "Grey's Anatomy." Ah, the things these Dereks do to us. When I first heard the news that Shemar Moore was leaving "Criminal Minds" I was literally in tears. I will never be able to forget the Penelope and Derek bond or the jokes between Spencer and Derek. He truly made the show 10 times better and I don't know if I can bring myself to watch it anymore now that he is gone. But hey, I did continue to watch "Grey's Anatomy" after Derek Shepherd died, so who knows. Anyway, with Derek Morgan's recent going away I would like to take this time out to reflect on why Derek Morgan was my favorite character.

He wasn't only my favorite because he of his insane good looks, but he was my favorite because he was the most kind, caring, passionate, funny and outspoken character on the show. He was always there for everyone on his team. Whenever someone was going through something he was always there to lend a helping hand and to offer some great advice. No matter what situation someone was going through on the show, he could see right through it and get them to open up about what was going on in their life. Also, he wasn't afraid to open to up to people about what was going on with him either. He wasn't afraid to show his emotions and that made me love him so much more. Because let's all admit it, it is hard to get men to show their emotions. Being able to see his emotions toward a lot of situations made him so much more lovable. However, although we were able to see his emotional side, we were also able to see how outspoken he was. Out of the whole team he had no problem telling it how it was and he also had no problem putting Hotchner in his place. Whenever he felt something needed to be said or he was concerned with something, he had no problem expressing how he felt.

He was also one of the most protective ones on the show. Telling him to stand down meant nothing if it meant saving his team's life. There were so many times he risked his life to not only protect his team, but to protect any and everyone. I mean, do you not remember him driving an ambulance with a ticking bomb in it just to make sure no one got hurt? Or when he stayed at Penelope's house after she got shot to make sure she was protected from her attacker? He is just the awesomest of awesome. Not to mention, he is also a very funny character. I will never be able to forget the slight dirty talk between him and Penelope and all the jokes he used to crack at Spencer for being so smart and knowing everything.

For all the Derek Morgan fans out there I hope this made you feel a little better about our sweet Derek moving on. He will live forever in our hearts and the show will not be the same without him.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
