My Favorite Vacation

Keuka Lake is fun for everyone.

My Favorite Vacation

When people think of New York they think of the city, Brooklyn or Queens, but there are more cities that are a lot smaller like Bath, Hammondsport, and Pen Yan. That is exactly where my favorite place to go vacationing is.

Keuka Lake is in between Hammondsport and Pen Yan. It is one lake of the Finger Lakes. My family and I have been to the lake five times, and all five times they were a blast. We get there a day early to see my grandparents and to see some people my parents were friends with when they were in high school. Our family and our family friends come down to the lake cottage to go swimming, tubing, and waterskiing.

My favorite lake cottage was called “The Love Shack;" it was the first cottage we ever rented. It had an outdoor shower, a big wraparound porch, and a dock in the middle of the water for people to jump off of. Although that was a great cottage, there were others that I liked but not as much.

Being with my family in a cottage for a week is fun because we get to just relax and have a good time. My brother and I can go tubing together, my mom and I can tan on the dock together and my dad and I can drive the boat together.

One of the best parts of going to the lake is seeing all the other people on the lake because usually they are all so friendly. We get to have our longtime friends come up from my parent's hometown with their two children that are my brother's and my age, and we have a great time with them. We drink, eat food and go tubing with them. My grandparents and uncle also come down each time to visit the cottage; although they don’t go tubing with us, we still have great food and have a great time together.

The Switzerland Inn is one of the restaurants on the lake, and they have great food. Everyone can bring their boats and dock them at the dock in the back of the restaurants. We usually go there once while we are there for the week. We could either eat outside and enjoy the view or we could eat inside. When going to dinner and the sun is setting, it is a fabulous view to look at.

It is always sad the last day of being at the lake. We have to pack clean and say goodbye to the lake till next summer or so. On the last day it's even sadder because we have to fully say goodbye to the lake. We have to take pictures with each other and take pictures of the lake one last time before we leave. On the way home, we can talk about what our favorite part of the vacation we did. For me, its always seeing everyone and being on the water.

Keuka Lake is the best lake one could imagine going to. Don’t believe me? Go and see for yourself.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
