My Favorite Things About Simpson College.

Why Simpco is so great.

My Favorite Things About Simpson College.

Simpson College has been my home for the past 4 years and that will all sadly be ending in May of 2017. As ready as I am it is still scary, any major change is. But it's nice to look back at my time on campus and remember some of my favorite things.

1. Yell Like Hell

This is my absolute favorite event on Simpsons campus. Yell Like Hell is a homecoming event and tradition that has been done for years. Groups on campus come together and do routines and chants to try and beat each other for the title of "Yell Like Hell Champ." The best part is that EVERYONE goes, even some people from the community come to check it out.

2. The Acorn

The Acorn is a satirical news source on campus that anyone with a sense of humor can join. They are nutty and always on top of the latest trends. I may be biased because I have been on it since it has started but its always made me smile and I have made many friends through it. Be sure to check out their stories and the Twitter page @TheSimpsonAcorn to stay up to date with their posts.

3. The Squirrels

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE...and no, they don't get out of your way when you are walking, they stand their ground. Most of the time they are close enough to touch. It's always nice to see other students enjoying them just as much as I do. The best is when the leaves fall and you can sit in Kent and watch them play.

4. The "Butt Tree"

If you don't know what I am talking about, shame on you. The Butt Tree makes campus. It is located by Mary Berry and Dunn Library and it is one of the best things about the school. We love our trees on campus because they keep the squirrels around but this one is definitely the best tree just cause it gives you a laugh.

5. Sporting Events

Nothing quite gets the blood pumping like cheering on the Storm in any event. I especially love men's basketball because the students in the crowd really get into it. No matter what you are into you can always find something to cheer about on campus. Plus it's fun to go cheer on your friends.

6. The Traditions and History

There are so many amazing traditions on campus, like street painting during homecoming, Campus Day Eve and Campus Day itself. Simpson always has something going on that brings us together as a community. Also multiple buildings have some type of historical background to them which is really cool,

7. Folktales

Such as Millie, the ghost who lives in College Hall or not stepping on any of the seals on campus otherwise you will fail your next test. Simpson have plenty of stories that have accumulated over the years. Which just ads to the ambiance.

8. The Lingo

Just like any other college there are abbreviations and fun words we use such as: BPAC, Kent, Simpco, Pfeiff, and many more. Some are pretty basic and explanatory but it's still fun to know the lingo. If you don't know what those are you should come to Simpson to find out. It's a student thing, other people just don't understand.

There is plenty more that Simpson has to offer, just come here and see for yourself. These were my favorite things about attending school here, I will miss it all when I leave. But I know I will always have Simpson in my heart and in my memories.

GO STORM!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
