Poetry is often the energy and life that runs through an author's veins. Their words are able to speak for many who are unable to make their voice heard. The following, "Saltwater" by Finn Butler, is my favorite poem, and has been for many years, and I believe that it is able to speak to almost everyone.
"Everyone who terrifies you is 65% water"
This raw, but relatable poem begins with the fact that even though there are many scary situations that can arise in life, many of them begin with people, all of who are simply made of water. Water is necessary for life, meaning that hardships in life are necessary, but that they should never dim your light to change the world.
"And everyone you love is made of stardust"
So let's get this straight. Everyone you are afraid of is made of simply water, but your amazing friends and family and those who love you are made of freaking stardust! Isn't that just awesome?!? Because they got it from you.
"And I know sometimes you cannot breathe deeply, and the night sky is no home, and that you are down to your last two percent"
Everyone experiences hardships, everyone. Some are worse than others or some don't cope as well as others, and all of this is perfectly okay. But, what every individual needs to know is that no matter how hard life seems, even if you are down to your last two percent, there is always someone who cares about you. I care.
"But nothing is infinite, not even loss. You are made of the sea and stars, and one day, you are going to find yourself again."
Whether you feel alone in this world, suffer an extreme hardship, or are not sure what your purpose in life is quite yet, it is all okay and will end up how everything is supposed to be. Why? Because you are full of beautiful and bright intangibles that make you the amazing person that you are, no matter how long it takes to find your life journey.
