My Favorite Places in Westchester

I grew up in Yonkers and currently live in New Rochelle, so I've lived in Westchester my entire life. Originally, when I started looking at colleges, I thought I wanted to move as far away from home as possible. Little did I figure, I'd stay right at home and commute to Fordham in the Bronx! Here are a few of my favorite places to visit!

Westchester is filled with countless little adventure spots. These are a few of my favorite places to visit in Westchester that, at least to me, are truly magical!

1. Cranberry Lake Preserve

One of my favorite hiking trails, picnic spots, and jogging routes is Cranberry Lake Preserve which is located in West Harrison NY. The preserve has numerous trails and little spots to hang out, with each trail of varying difficulty and length. I absolutely love coming here in the summer or fall to jog or hike and once or twice I've gone when it's recently snowed to walk and enjoy the fresh air.

This isn't a place I would visit by myself, as some of the trails can be a bit dangerous and I think it's something that is better to do with a group or at least one other person.

2. Bronxville Town

I absolutely love Bronxville and I say it every time I am there or driving by! It is a super cute town with a condensed town center with mom and pop shops, boutiques and my favorite coffee shop - Slave to the Grind!

Bronxville is very expensive to live in, but not too expensive to visit for a meal, coffee shop study day or date at the super tiny and super cute three (or so) screen retro movie theatre!

Bronxville in the winter is one of my absolute favorite things because the lights and snowy rooftops are the most absolutely beautiful thing! I definitely recommend visiting Bronxville for a cute little adventure!

3. Scarsdale Village

Similar to Bronxville, but with a more NYC vibe, Scarsdale village is also incredibly adorable and one of my favorite little towns to walk around and shop! Scarsdale is more appealing to me in the summer, but also beautiful in the winter after a fresh snow!

Scarsdale has more upscale shops and restaurants, but there a few little mom and pop shops as well! One of the less expensive but still super trendy places to visit is Cooked & Co. which is a restaurant that is primarily known for its brunch!

4. Ridge Hill Shopping Center in Yonkers

I absolutely love going to Ridge Hill Shopping Center. It's a newer shopping center as far as shopping centers go in Westchester and I love the layout of it! There is a wonderful balance of indoor and outdoor and upscale stores and more affordable average stores. There's a playground in the center for children to get all their energy out so their parents or babysitters can get their shopping done! There's also quite a few food choices, but not too many where you're extremely overwhelmed with trying to make a decision on dinner. My favorite part is the movie theatre because the seats are huge!

5. Candlelight Inn

Candlelight is a very dimly lit bar and restaurant with, in my opinion, the best wings ever! It's located on Central Avenue, which is a main road connecting a few towns in Westchester with dozens of stores and restaurants.

If you go visit, try the wings and the cheese fries! Be warned, they only take cash!

6. Bronx River Trail

One of my favorite trails in Westchester is the Bronx River trail because it's great for a leisurely stroll or a solid jog/run without the risk of injury because it's a paved path.

This is a trail that I will go on by myself without worrying because it is parallel to the Bronx River Parkway as well as quite a few towns in Westchester.

My favorite entrance is next to the Scarsdale Train station parking lot!

7. Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck

Harbor Island Park is another great spot in Westchester to go for an easier jog/run. It is especially beautiful in the summer to go for a run around the water!

There is plenty of parking and it is also near quite a few pool clubs and beaches.

8. Bartaco in Port Chester

If you love tacos and reasonably priced yet amazing restaurants, then Bartaco is definitely for you.

I've taken pretty much all of my friends to Bartaco at one point or another, and they all love it! The tacos range from $2.50 to $3 and the menu has something for everyone! They have an option for lettuce wraps instead of tortillas for tacos, a kids menu for the little ones and a variety of drinks including my favorite- a carafe of sweetened ice tea for just $3.50 which could easily quench 3 or so taco - lovers!

9. Larchmont Dog Beach

If you have a furry friend, then you MUST take them to explore, swim and meet new friends at the Larchmont Dog Beach. I took my dog, Bear, to the beach this past summer and he LOVED it! Parking is a bit tricky so make sure you read the street signs!

10. Workout Studios!

Something that I've always appreciated about Westchester is the close proximity to other towns and what other towns have to offer! Especially in the area I love in, if you drive 5 minutes in any direction, you're in a different town!

One of the biggest benefits that I love about living near so many different towns is the unlimited amount of workout studios that I have access to. Some of my favorites are: Barry's Bootcamp in Scarsdale, Susan Marlowe in Scarsdale, OrangeTheory in Tuckahoe, Yoga Rebels in Eastchester, The Bar Method in Scarsdale and Ripped Ride in Eastchester/Scarsdale!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
