My Favorite Places Back Home

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Fall and winter are my favorite seasons mostly because of the holidays and we get to come home for a week or two. My family and I get to come back and enjoy the things we have been missing out on and visit family members we don't see very often. I'm excited for everyone to meet the newest family member and catch up but mostly I'm excited for the food! So while we are home here are seven places I will definitely be at.

1. Margaritaville (It's five o clock somewhere)

Last year I went here for my twenty second birthday and had fun gambling so I will be back to do some more! Besides all of the cigarette smoke this has been one of my favorite casinos to visit on the Red River. If you're looking for a good time and free drinks while you throw your money away and try to win some back then this is your place. Plus the volcano nachos are AMAZING.

2. Shane's or crawdaddy's (mudbugs!)

Of course when I'm in town I have to get my crawfish fix! Living on the east coast it's been a little difficult to find some mudbugs but I have found one place that is pretty good but there's nothing like crawfish in Louisiana. I'm not a fan of paying a lot either but I know how the system works since I used to work at Shane's. I also need some meat pies and gumbo.

3. Timeout Bar.

My favorite bartender might not be here anymore but we do like to come and have a night away from our kids. Since I'm not pregnant this time I will be enjoying a nice beer while my husband plays pool with his friends. It's also good catching up with everyone since this is a bar everyone goes to. Gotta love being over twenty one now.

4. The Louisiana Boardwalk.

Even though it's full of teenagers and shoppers I love the view of the river and downtown from the top floor of the parking garage. When you live in a small town with no big shopping place but a mall you begin to miss the one you had back home. I especially love it during Christmas time with all the decorations, lights, and huge tree by the water fountain.

5. Youree Drive.

All though most people despise this road because of the traffic during most of the day I miss it. I miss all of the food options and the stores that are not available here. Most people take it for granted but when it's not near you it kinda sucks. Everything you need is literally on this strip. Super Target here we come!

6. Trejos, Posados, and Nicky's.

Living in a smaller town with only one popular Mexican restaurant I seriously began to miss all of the options back home. From time to time I crave the tortillas with butter from Posados, the puffy tacos and salsa from Trejos, and the enchiladas from Nicky's. If you all can't tell by now I have an amazing relationship with food. I'm also gonna have to take a trip to Longview not only to see more family but visit Papacita's. If any of you go there you need to eat there. Best Mexican food ever!

7. Grandma, Mamaw, and Dads house.

Last but not least I'm happy to be able to go to each of the houses. Nothing feels like home until you walk into your grandmas house and relax. Also raiding their fridges for food. Plus being spoiled by them all and getting a break from the kids while they love on them. I can't wait to see everyone and enjoy another holiday with you all. We'll be home soon and Happy Holidays!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
