As we get ready to let out for winter break, I'd like to share a few of my favorite Christmas traditions with my family.
1. Decorating The Christmas Tree.
Who doesn't love decorating the tree? I love getting together with my family and putting on the ornaments. My sister and I have a pair of ornaments that say "Oldest Child" and "Middle Child" that we sneakily try to put higher than each other's (I won this year. She still hasn't realized!).
2. White Christmas
Every year, we go to the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham to watch a showing of White Christmas. We have our spot to watch from and I adore the theatre as a whole. Before the show starts, they have an organ rises from under the stage and everyone in the audience sings Christmas carols as the same man plays year after year.
3. Family reunions
I have not one but FOUR family reunions every December. I get to see everybody from all sides of the family. It's really interesting to see how different each part is. I love it!
4. Going to See the Flag
Every year on Christmas Eve, my family goes looking at Christmas decorations around town, and one of the companies nearby decorates the trees and has this huge American flag with spotlights shining on it. I could watch it billow in the wind for hours. That's how I know it's Christmas.
5. Christmas breakfast.
This started as my grandparents coming over to see what Santa brought us, and kept going even when that wasn't a mystery anymore. We all sit around and enjoy breakfast that my dad cooks and talk about the presents we get.
6. Church on Christmas.
My church does a Christmas service every year where we go just to hear the story of Jesus's birth and sing Christmas songs. It's really heartwarming to be surrounded y so much happiness and love.
