Finals are over, which means it’s time to get into the holiday spirit of whatever holiday you celebrate. I get into the Christmas spirit by watching as many Christmas movies as I can. I’m not sure if some of these movies are the most popular, and I’ve never seen "A Christmas Story" in it’s entirety, but here are some of my personal favorites.
The Santa Clause
This Tim Allen film is a classic. A man who no longer believes in Santa Claus is in for a huge surprise when Santa falls off his roof on Christmas Eve. At his son’s urging, he puts on Santa’s suit, and after that, nothing is the same ever again.
Annabelle’s Wish
This lesser known, animated short film chronicles the first year of life of a cow named Annabelle, who was born on Christmas Eve and is allowed to speak for 24 hours, along with the rest of the farm animals. She becomes best friends with Billy, a young boy who lost his ability to speak, and dreams of becoming a reindeer who flies with Santa on Christmas Eve. It is a story of true friendship and the surprise twist at the end is very moving.
It’s A Wonderful Life
My family seems to watch this black and white classic every Christmas, no matter how many times we say we aren’t going to. Jimmy Stewart stars as the title character, George Bailey, who learns about his impact on people through an angel named Clarence.
A Charlie Brown Christmas
What’s any holiday without good ol' Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts crew? The music alone can get you into the Christmas spirit. And Linus’ explanation of what Christmas is all about…. ahh! So wonderful.
Elf
This beloved film, believe it or not, I just saw for the first time this year. Not only was it a great film, but I can also relate to Buddy the Elf on a spiritual level. Well, maybe not with the whole dad and living at the North Pole part, but with an awful lot of other parts. My favorite part was the part with the Narwhal. See the picture above.
Christmas With The Kranks
I just saw this one for the first time as well and thought I would include it because it was very funny and enjoyable. It has Tim Allen as well. If you enjoy comedies I would watch this one for sure.
Frosty The Snowman
Frosty the snowman, was a jolly, happy soul! You will be a jolly, happy soul as well if you indulge in Frosty The Snowman. Who doesn’t love Frosty?
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
The reindeer that inspired the hit song is the title character in a very cute movie about accepting yourself and others. If you’ve never seen"Rudolph", what are you waiting for? You’re missing out on a lot.
I’ll certainly be checking out these movies in the coming week, and you should too. I also just found out that my family recently acquired "A Christmas Story", so I’ll have to watch the whole thing straight through and find out what all the hype is about.
