My Favorite Childhood Vacation would have to be going to Hiram, Maine each summer with my family. I was six weeks old the first time my parents brought me to the cabin. Our family owns a small cabin right on the lake. There is a small dock that my friends and I would sit on that would overlook the Mountains. It was beautiful I remember always being so sad to leave.
The people in town were so friendly and the food was amazing. We would go out to eat occasionally to a small place called Sacopee Valley House of Pizza. This was our all-time favorite spot because it was just the right amount of well basically everything. Not too crowded but not to quiet, Not too pricey, and the food was amazing. The area felt like home even if you hadn't been there in a while everybody knew you.
Once you left town now that's a different story.
Our family cabin was literally in the middle of nowhere. Only a couple neighbors who were barely there and dirt roads galore. Oh, and did I forget to mention no internet. This meant that you would have to drive back into town to make a call or a text. I didn't mind though I loved being away from social media and just enjoying the outdoors. The air was so clean and the smell of pine trees would fill your nostrils.
Not to mention the smell of campfires would leave your hair smelling like it for days.
Hiram Maine has such a special place in my heart it's where I learned to swim, ride a horse, play mini golf and caught my first fish. The sights are beautiful whether it's an apple orchard that has a small petting zoo. Amazing hiking paths that can lead you anywhere. Or the hope of spotting a moose walking past the cabin at 3 A.M. Whatever it may be you just feel this calmness that nowhere else can really give you for me anyway.
Thank you, Maine, for all the great childhood memories and I'm excited to see what comes next.
