My Favorite 90s Movies
Art Tavana

If you couldn't tell based on a few of my previous articles I have written, I love movies! Some of my favorite movies are movies that came out when I was either very young, or not even born yet. So, let's just dive right in. (These movies are not listed in any specific order.) Here a some of my favorite 90s movies:

1. Clueless (1995)

Even though this was two years before I was born, I have always loved this movie. I own it on DVD and love watching it because it always makes me laugh. I just recently had a friend who had never seen it watch it. Although, it is kind of weird that she falls in love with her step-brother.

2. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

I had not watched this movie until the summer of my senior year of high school, for obvious reasons. I think this movie was so interesting, but also really disturbing.

3. Home Alone (1990)

This is one of the classics for me when it comes to Christmas. I still do not understand how they could forget about Kevin. The situations with the robbers is kind if creepy now that I think about. When I was younger, I just thought the whole thing was hilarious.

4. The Sixth Sense (1999)

I remember watching this for the first time with my grandparents. I was in such shock when I realized what was going on.

5. Independence Day (1996)

I cannot bring myself to watch the sequel they just made because I am scared it's not going to be as great as the first one. I have watched this movie so many times because it used to come on HBO a lot.

6. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

I feel like this one is one of the classics. I thought Johnny Depp was so cute, even though he locked super weird with all of that makeup.

7. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

This was probably one of the first Tim Burton movies I had ever watched. I will most likely watch this for Christmas.

8. Forrest Gump (1994)

I feel like everyone has seen this so many times. The best part about this movie was that the character Forrest was "involved" in so many cool historical events. Obviously the store is not true, but imagine if it was.

9. Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)

Oh my goodness, I could watch this movie over and over and never get tired of it. I really want to read the books.

10. The Craft (1996)

Let's be honest, I totally wanted witch powers after this movie.

11. Space Jam (1996)

I used to go to this summer camp and we would watch this almost every Friday. We would all dance to the song and it was so fun!

12. That Thing You Do! (1996)

I found this movie because it came on randomly one night when I was channel surfing. I still remember the main song.

I am sitting here thinking about all of the movies I like from the 90s, and if I continue my list will be super long. So, for now, if you haven't watched these movies, please go watch them!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
