I made my first Instagram post two and a half years ago and, since then, I have come across some accounts that I really like! So, here are just a few of my favorites:
1. Adam Gallagher (@IAMGALLA)
Adam Gallagher is a menswear blogger based out of NYC. He travels the world, documenting his trips and outfits. I’ve been following him since I got my Instagram and I have never gotten tired of his amazing, high-quality content. He is best known for his successful Instagram account, which currently has 1.7 million followers, but also has an official website (iamgalla.com), where he blogs in more depth about his adventures and style.
2. Kiel James Patrick (@KJP)
KJP started a successful clothing company in Rhode Island several years ago. Nearly all of their advertising is done via social media. Their content is very geared toward an all-American, east coast lifestyle. On one hand, they photograph their life at work, which is more glamorous than it sounds, and their outdoor adventures. On the other, the lavish parties that they attend. If you haven’t looked at KJP’s Instagram account yet, make sure you block out a few hours of your day before you do because it is easy to get lost in his +5000 posts.
3. Kendall Jenner (@ KENDALLJENNER)
I’m just going to put it out there that Kendall Jenner is the only person that I follow from the Jenner/Kardashian family. I think she seems really sweet and genuine, which comes through in her social media. She has had an amazing career in modeling, and is building an empire of her own and a name for herself. What I like about her is that despite her amazing success, she doesn’t take herself too seriously. Yes, she posts a lot of professional photos, but if you were on the cover of Vogue, I hope you would too. She doesn’t shy away from a #tbt post or a selfie with her friends and fam, which I appreciate.
4. Gigi Hadid (@GIGIHADID)
Can you follow Kendall Jenner without following Gigi Hadid? No, probably not, because they’re always together. Gigi is another model who is making a name for herself and redefining what it means to be a supermodel in 2016. Her Instagram is more on the professional side than Kendall’s, but they complement each other nicely.
5. Mariano Di Vaio (@MARIANODIVAIO)
Mariano Di Vaio is another of the top menswear bloggers worldwide, holding 4.6 million Instagram followers currently. To put that in perspective, about 3 million people live in the city of Chicago. For someone who is famous for his Instagram account alone, I would consider this a huge success. He posts mostly promotions for clothing brands, but he provides great style inspiration (and gym inspiration).
6. Erick Dent (@ERICKDENT)
I don’t know how else to put this, but Erick Dent seems really cool. He’s the kind of guy who you want to spend a weekend with because it seems like everything he does is just really, really fun and laid-back. What I admire most about him, though, is his birthmark that he has on his forehead. Instead of covering it up or photoshopping it out, he embraces it as a piece of his identity, and I think that it sets him apart from a lot of other professional Instagrammers.
7. St. Louis Official Instagram (@STLOUISGRAM)
Living in Saint Louis, I like to keep up with what’s going on in the city and look at the amazing art that people here are producing. It also serves as an inspiration for me, since there are so many areas of the city that I have yet to explore. The majority of large cities have this type of account, and I would encourage you to follow one to keep up with whatever is going on in the place you call home!
8. John Economou (@JOHNECONOMOU024)
I read a story a few months ago about how Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid saw a homeless man who they thought had the potential to have a really successful modeling career, so they put him in contact with some people, and now he’s a model. I like stories like that because they show that there is, in fact, some good in Hollywood. His Instagram feed could be a little stronger if he posted more often, but I think his story is too good not to share. So go, give him a follow.
9. I Have This Thing With Floors (@IHAVETHISTHINGWITHFLOORS)
If aesthetic pleasure is your thing, stop reading this right now and go get lost in this Instagram account’s amazing feed. All it is are pictures of really beautiful, detailed floors. When you look at these pictures, everything seems right with the world, and you never stop looking for cool floors in hopes that one day you will come across one that is worthy of being featured. I haven’t gotten there yet, but I’m working on it.
10. Matthias Geerts (@MATTHIASGEERTS)
Of the menswear bloggers that I follow, I am inclined to say that Matthias is my favorite. Although he has over 105,000 followers, he does not shy away from interacting with his followers. I have tagged him in some of my posts and used his hashtag #mattgstyle, and he has liked and commented on a few of my own posts. Interacting with the people who follow you is a great way to develop a solid fan base, and I think that it is what sets him apart from the many other menswear accounts that exist out there. Also, since he blogs about menswear, his sense of style is impeccable and certainly inspires me to be well dressed as often as possible.
11. Daniel Wellington (@DANIELWELLINGTON)
Daniel Wellington is a watch company that does a lot of their marketing via social media. They are really growing in popularity, which I think is due to their #DWPickOfTheDay campaign, in which that select one post per day from a fan’s account to put on their Instagram. It is a great way to get the customers to engage more fully with the brand, ultimately allowing for a really positive experience with Daniel Wellington.
12. Jay Alvarrez (@JAYALVARREZ)
You know when you ask someone, “What would you do for your job if you could do anything and make money?” And of course they respond by saying, “Ummmm travel…” Well, that’s what Jay Alvarrez and his longtime girlfriend, Alexis Ren, get to do. Are you jealous? Because I am. Aside from the fact that they both get to play on the beach and get paid, they are the two most beautiful humans to grace the Earth. But we can’t all do that, so 3.5 million of us watch from afar, hoping that one day we can do the same thing. Trust me, it's worth the follow.
So there you have it! These are my favorite Instagram accounts. Check them out, find your own and look for things that inspire you. Social media gets a bad reputation sometimes, but I think that it brings a lot of people joy. This is modern-day art, and we have the ability to experience it and interact with it first hand, so why wouldn’t we?
