When I first started writing for Odyssey, I didn’t know what to expect. It was the summer of 2016 when I received a message from a good friend of mine, asking if I was interested in writing for a particular platform called Odyssey. At the time, I was really looking to find ways to get some writing experience and start building up a portfolio, so the thought of writing articles for a well-established site appealed heavily to me. So I decided to take on the position as a content creator.
From there, I was given weekly opportunities to write what I was passionate about, what I was interested in, what was on my heart, basically whatever I wanted. Odyssey has really given me an outlet as a writer to not only gain writing experience, but a way to say what I wanted to say; it gave me a voice. From personal poems, to anime reviews, to faith-based articles, Odyssey has allowed me to express without boundaries and I didn’t feel judged for the things that I wanted to write.
But of course, with everything, there comes an end. Entering into a heavy-loaded spring quarter, I found myself drowned in schoolwork and other priorities making my writing for Odyssey a bit lackluster. I’ve also been getting into writing more lyrics again so having to juggle that alongside papers and such made it hard for me to give it my all to the weekly articles.
So with this being my 40th article, I decided that it’s time for me to step down in order to focus on my new season of writing and allow new and flourishing writers to take my place.
I’m so thankful to have received this opportunity to write on a well-known platform and be allowed the freedom to write whatever it is that I wanted because I know that elsewhere that will most certainly be different.
I want to give a special thanks to my homie Marcus Gettman for recommending me to be a content creator for Odyssey, and also to Mikayla Lawrence for giving me the opportunity to do so (and thank you for always being patient with me when I turn in my articles late).
I know that my writing journey has only begun and that this opportunity was only the first step of many more to come. So farewell, Odyssey, and thank you.
