My Experience In The Professional World
Vince Rodd

Over this past Summer I had a wonderful experience that enabled me to see what the professional world is like. I had my first internship at a small graduate college around where I lived and throughout this article I am going to explain what it had taught me in terms of the professional working world.

The main idea that was expressed to me while I was working over the summer was that in the professional world it is required to have a great amount of experience in the particular field you are looking to persue. There isn't a required amount of experience needed set in stone but employers and companies want to see that as a post college grad you have the ability already to perform the tasks you are assigned to do above and beyond the average level. This may seem very scary and may make people feel nervous but in terms of getting internships it is one of the biggest things that are taught in an internship. I had this experience when I was working at my internship and my boss had explained to me that the experience I got from there would be a big help to other employers.

If this does seem scary, there are many options that you can go to as a resource in order to get more experience in the field and usually they are located on your college campus. Career and student services is a branch that most colleges have aimed at improving their student's ability to get a job or internship. They help edit your resume, conduct mock interviews and give you general tips on how you can improve yourself to get an internship or job. This is a great resource that I have taken advantage of and it has paid off greatly with giving me the opportunity to be able to work in the professional field while still in school.

When looking for what internship is the best fit for you and when you find that internship and are offered a posibility to work in the professional field it important to remember that you are there to absorb all of the information that you are going to be given. This would mean that every opportunity you have to impress your boss or do something out of the box that would be a big help to the office than it would put you on better grounds with your employer. Thinking outside the box or even going further than you are supposed to with your work is a great way to impress the employer but that employer can also give you recommendations which are very important. When doing things that are above your required work it gives you an opportunity to show future employers that you are willing to go above and beyond. Going above and beyond makes you stand out rather than remain an average person looking for a job.

It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
