In my experience, transferring schools has been one of the most important decisions I’ve ever had to make. After spending a year in Chicago at DePaul University, I made the choice to transfer to Adrian College for the remainder of my time in college due to financial reasons. At first, I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be transferring, I was always convinced that I would have my college experience at DePaul. Being someone that was born and raised in Adrian, I always wanted to spend my time in college somewhere far away from home. The thought of coming back home was almost too much, but I tried my best to remain positive.

During the summer after my Freshman year at DePaul, I did my best to try and get acclimated to being back in Adrian. I first got a job at Dunham's in Adrian and started meeting new people that either went to Adrian College or Siena Heights and soon started meeting a lot of new people. Once classes started at Adrian, I remember being extremely nervous because I didn't know anyone in my classes. During the first few weeks, I was fairly reclusive and the only social life I had consisted of going to class and then back home. Although I was enjoying the classes at Adrian, I was having trouble cultivating a social life. However, I was soon introduced to the guys who would eventually be my fraternity brothers and this completely changed my college experience.

After I was introduced to my soon to be fraternity brothers, I started to have a much larger social life. I started going out more on the weekends and being more involved around campus. Usually, I would find myself at home on the weekends, however, when I started attending more social events on the weekends, I got to know many more people. One other way in which I became more social is when I decided to move into a dorm on campus. Originally, I lived at home because I only live 10 minutes from campus, but moving to campus definitely helped me become more social.

Midway through my Sophomore year at Adrian College, I soon learned that I made the right choice. Although the environment at Adrian is far different from the one at DePaul, it was the people I met that made the difference. I was introduced to my soon to be fraternity brothers and started meeting a bunch of new people who soon became good friends. I always thought that going from a large college such as DePaul to Adrian would be an extremely difficult transition, but it never was. Overall, I feel as though I made the right choice to come back to Adrian.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
