One thing that stresses me out the most is waking up to a long list of things I have to get done for the day. I can’t push them off because this is my only day off from work, so instead of relaxing on my day off, I must start at the top and keep going till I hit the end. Well, let me tell you, this can be the most irritating and stressful thing to deal with. I am the type of person who can handle stress well and can take on more tasks than I ask for, but sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day.
It’s your day off and you would love to wake up whenever, make a cup of coffee and maybe even watch a show before you make it out of bed. Then you mosey on over to your kitchen and decide to eat something other than a granola bar because you have the actual time to do it, but wait you remember it is your only day off and you need to grocery shop, pick up clothes from the dry cleaners, respond to emails, catch up with family and friends, blah, blah, blah.
What you thought to have been your nice leisurely day off has turned into an even harder day than being at work. Does it ever end? Do we ever get the chance to stop what we are doing and enjoy the world around us without thinking about the endless amount of to do’s we have to complete by the end of the day? Probably not. If you are like me and you get that spare hour or two to just relax, most times you end up making lists in your head about what other things you can get done, or you’re on your lab top ordering things because you don’t even have enough time to go to the store.
Even when we try to make time for ourselves and relax it is next to impossible because the idea of relaxing when you have a million things to do almost makes you feel guilty. Why should I be sitting here watching TV wasting all this precious time when I could be cleaning my apartment, doing laundry, putting gas in my car, cooking a meal, etc. The world seems to be constantly spinning and moving and the only time you really stop to rest is, of course, the 5 hours of sleep you get each night.
Then you start to realize, well wait a second. If I didn’t have a million things to do and I was forced to stop and relax could I do it? Am I capable of sitting in a chair for more than 30 minutes before getting up and doing something else? Hahaha, probably not. As much as we complain about the endless to-do list, we secretly love it. We love the idea of being constantly busy and having a bunch of stuff to do because, without it, we would be bored as hell.
