Drive-Thru Graduation By A 2020 Senior

Drive-Thru Graduation By A 2020 Senior

We all know that 2020 hasn't exactly been THE year... However, it really left an imprint on the seniors of 2020.

I went to a small high school where we have a very loving community. I love my hometown. Our high school admin got together and decided to do something a little different for us seniors.

Since both our graduation and prom were being postponed (and possibly cancelled) they decided to let us have one car per family participate in our drive thru graduation! The admin gave us a little map and let our families decorate cars and everything.

My mom and I of course went all-out. Car paint, streamers, balloons, you name it. We also ordered a little disco ball for the inside but did not end up putting it in there!

I got ready for this event like a normal graduation. I wore my cap, gown, and cords like usual. This was such a cool feeling to put all of this on for the first time and gave me a sense of accomplishment.

My mom, dad, brother and I packed into my mom’s car and met my best friend Reagan at school. Ever since Reagan and I were little, we have always dreamed of walking together at graduation.

While we waited in line for my turn, we watched the live stream of the ceremony on Facebook! I made a TikTok of a lot of my friends with their thumbs up in their cars and it turned out super cute

When it was my turn, my dad drove us up to the high school entrance where the street was lined with teachers and a couple of cameras. I got out of the car while my name was called and waved to my lovely teachers.

Our superintendent congratulated me and gave me, along with the rest of the senior class, a Class of 2020 Frame. They went the extra mile to make us feel loved and special.

On my way back to the car, I waved at the live stream and screamed "I LOVE YOU!" to my family watching at home. I am very grateful for my supportive family members.

We then had an opportunity to get out of our cars and take a family photo to place inside of the frame we received. It was a very good idea and a nice little keepsake.

Then my family and I got some sushi! It was honestly a really amazing night.

Our in-person graduation has been rescheduled for late July! So, that is something to look forward to. However, some students are not able attend the July graduation due college, the military, etc.

Contrary to popular opinion, I am actually more fond of the drive-thru ceremony than the traditional one. Our class will always be remembered as being unique, and I never liked being like everyone else anyways.

I appreciate my community, friends, and family very much. I loved this ceremony and am proud to be the class of 2020!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
