My Dad; A Role Model

A thank you

My Dad; A Role Model
Molly Hammack

With Father’s Day having been this past weekend, I thought it would be important to take a little time to recognize all the dads out there- and say thank you to them for all of their efforts. I know personally that my father is one of two major role models in my life, aside from my mom, and I have no idea where I would be without him. The work that fathers do is often underrated, but crucial to the development of their children, and I know without my Dad, I would only be half the person I am today.

So thank you, Dad- for all that you do for this family every day. For supporting us, your hard work and drive are something to be sought after. I appreciate your role as a provider and strive to achieve the same success in the working world that you have. You pushed me to do well always, encouraged me to put effort into everything I do, and continue to make sure I work hard while in college. I think people fail when they don’t have an adequate support system to lean on, but you have always given me all that I need to do great things, and be a gracious person. You are one of the strongest people I have ever met, and rarely let anything phase you. You have handled tough situations with dignity and have come out on the other side stronger.

At times when my mom has been sick in the hospital fighting illness, my dad has played both roles as a parent and continues to be a loving husband. I know how lucky my mom feels because it takes a lot of effort for a person to be brave and stick by someone who is sick, and the weak ones give up. But not my Dad, because he isn’t a quitter, and this is a value I hope to acquire.

You are kind, and smart, and funny- you tell the sort of ‘Dad jokes’ that everyone needs to hear every once in a while. You know how to put a smile on my face when I need it. But you are also responsible, you worry about me, and know when being a parent is more important than being a friend. I appreciate this balance, and I know that it will keep me level headed in the future.

In short, you are an irreplaceable person in my life and have shown me the values of hard work, strength, and responsibility. Being a parent is no easy feat, but you have taken the role so seriously. You have helped shape the person that I am, and I hope to make you and Mom proud. I will always strive to do right by you and be the best version of myself. And lastly, for all your love- I thank you.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
