There is this song, "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" by Baz Luhrmann. I highly doubt you have heard it, and if you have, that is weird because this song is weird. My dad has blasted this song on road trips, in the house, and even at my sisters high school graduation party making everyone listen. The title makes you want to skip the song and never listen to it again. Yet, for the amount of times he has played it, this song is more lyric than beat based. The song sounds like a speech, but the words speak to you, I promise. He starts off the song with a weird line, "If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it." What does that even mean, you ask? This is such great advice, you will see.
"You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded but trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp."
We never realize how beautiful we are inside or out.
"Do one thing every day that scares you."
Some of us live this one life and never take risks, never feel the confidence in something frightening, and that is frightening.
"Don't be reckless with other people's hearts, Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours."
We should never hurt someone, and we should never deserve to be hurt.
"The race is long and in the end, it's only with yourself."
We try to compete with others lives, when in the end its your own life who matters.
"Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good."
How scary is this lyric? That's all I have to say.
"Be nice to your siblings, they're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future."
Your siblings are part of you, your life, and the ones you never abandon.
"You, too, will get old and when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young."
Enjoy being young, because getting old is never as fun.
These are some of the lyrics apart of this song, and I promise you every word in that song is as important as these. This song gives advice about sunscreen, a protection for your skin. Like the lyrics you need your family and yourself to protect you, and like sunscreen it only does so much. So take the chances you get, and never skip a little moment in life, everything counts and every moment will effect you. Dad, thank you for making 200 people at my sisters Graduation listen to this, because even if they ignored the song, I listened. This song you might want to listen to, it is the worst beat, best lyrical song I have listened to. This teaches me and made me recognize what I never have before. Listen to the song, understand the lyrics, and remember... always wear sunscreen.
