To my Dad on Father's Day

You the Real MVP

To my Dad on Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, dads-to-be (shoutout to the brother-in-law), and dads serving our country who can’t be with their family for Father’s Day. With the hustle and bustle of life it’s easy to forget all that our dads do for us. So today, we take some time to say thank you! Coming from a family of four daughters, my dad was the real MVP.

My dad has been by my side since day one, literally. Four weeks after I was born I had to go back to the hospital for a kidney infection and my dad spent multiple nights in the most uncomfortable bed until I was released. Since then, he’s taken me to the ER probably one too many times for broken bones. Growing up, he participated in countess hours of American Girl doll playing, got enough “makeovers” to question his manliness and knows a questionable amount of lyrics to Hanson. He has definitely sat through more than his fair share of church and preschool performances. Since daughter-number-one’s first recital, he’s never missed a single dance recital, orchestra performance or game of every sport imaginable. Lucky for my dad, soccer was my main sport; and lucky for me, my dad was my coach growing up. Today, I mostly just hear my dad coaching the Butler basketball team from the couch. As a bulldawg alumnus, my dad loves Butler, Trip and Brad Stevens just as much, maybe more, than I do. Seeing him so happy when he comes to visit is the best feeling. What's even better than seeing your dad happy? Answer- nothing.

Honestly, what would we do without our dads? They work all day then come home to a chorus of “what’s for dinner, I’m hungry” or “I neeedd this or that”. They’re cool, calm, and collected attitude is under-appreciated. Their hot dogs are always flawless, they can fix anything, they warm your car up on the freezing winter mornings and they keep the grass cut to play or lay out in. Finally, as much as you may roll your eyes at those classic dad jokes, (i.e. No, I got all my hairs cut) do they ever really get old?

So, today I promise not to ask you to make pancakes, hold my shopping bags, or fix my broken (fill in the blank); I will ask you to sleep in, enjoy a donut, listen to whatever music you want, and take a nap on the couch that’s calling your name. Thank you, Dad, for blessing me beyond what I deserve and being the best example of what a God-fearing man should be.

And lastly, I give you permission to watch this video as much as you want today.

Happy Father's Day to all those dads out there living the “Dad Life”!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
